I have had problems in the past using Mercury and Johnson/Evinrude Quick Disconnect fuel fitting (problems with the plastic).

This may be a dumb question, but does it matter what quick disconnect system you use off your fuel tank? I have a new 90 HP E-Tec and wanted to use the Honda connectors which are are a bit sturdier IMO. I just didn't know if flow rates, etc are affected by the type of fitting? Or do they all just do the job of delivering fuel.

Thanks,
Torrey

If the inside diameter of the Honda fitting is the same or larger than the original then you will be OK. If it is smaller then it depends....

If you are using a plastic fuel connector, you don't have an OEM fitting. You probably have some after-market fitting made of plastic. The real OEM fittings are made of metal.

The Mercury and OMC fittings are really decent fuel fittings. They have been in use for decades. You just have to get real OEM fittings made of metal and made to specification.

On the tank end, yes, you can change the fitting if you like to something else. The motor won't know. As mentioned, the most significant parameter is the size of the hose barb. On engines with higher horsepower you need to use a larger diameter hose so that there is no restriction in the fuel flow.

I had trouble with the original OMC quick disconnect. It
would let air into the line. Replacing it fixed the problem,
but I didn't care for the design. I'm now running
Nissan/Tohatsu fittings. Beware though of the Tempo version
of these -- the three little balls that lock it in place are
not SS and will corrode on a saltwater boat. If you replace
the balls with SS (I got a big bag from McMaster-Carr) they
are fine.

Thanks for the info

Chuck,

Does Moeller translate into Tempo now? I bought the Honda (Moeller) disconnect fittings which seem pretty nice.
