Just bought a SPORT 11, and I am going to install my mint 9.8 Mercury on her. Anyone running this combo? What size prop and what can I expect? I know solo she will perform pretty well but I think it will still plane with 2 in it. Not sure what the gear ratio or what prop I have on my 1981 9.8 Mercury but it should outperform a 8hp which does marginal with 2 adults.

Ok...engine is about 69lbs...2:1 gear ratio....7-10" pitch available with a 5500rpm redline. Does this help?

1978 Brochure says a sport 11 with a 10hp will do 18mph, with a 20 will do 22mph. Sounds a tad conservative to me since many are getting 23+ with a 15hp on GPS. I will assume it should run about 20mph if propped correctly...what do you think?

I have the 1988 11 with only the front seat. I have a new evinrude 9.9 and with one person 16 mph. but with to guys it is much slower. I would like to have a 20 then. but the lakes here 9.9 is all they will take. and thats is ok for the back water in fl.

my little Sport-11 with 15hp Merc. The boats no rocket, but it planes out and runs 21-22mph.

So if you rig and prop your motor to achieve maximum performance, you might see 18 MPH?

Fine with me...18-20mph in a bathtub is plenty fast. I also have a 35hp OMC but I would rather keep her a tender.

Anyone have some old Merc controls?

Have an 11 foot Standard with 2003 15 HP Merc. It has the stock prop as far as I know. It does 19.8 MPH on a handheld GPS planes easily with one adult 170 lbs and six gallons of gas onboard. At that speed, being that close to the water, I don't think I would want to go any faster. Any chop beyond a foot beats the hell out of you and soaks you....

Before I put a 15 on mine I had a '87 8hp Merc on her, she'd only plane when I was solo, and I was maybe 130pounds at the time... was pretty much a dog for anything other then tender dudies.

I repowerd with a 15hp, and I wish I held out for something bigger.... she still stuggles to plane with two adults.. sometimes she will other times no. Last weekend was her first time in the water in years, with just a few gallons 2+ year old gas she got on a plane and ran what felt like low 20s, no hotrod. I'm gonna throw new plugs and some fresh gas in and see what happens this weekend if it doesn't rain.

I've decided that I'm basicley gonna keep my '11 forever,, had her since I was 10 and although shes only been in the water twice in two years I'm afraid I'll regret selling her one day.

What the deal with this 35hp OMC? remote controlls? wanna sell it? I have a feeling once you get it in the water with that 9.8 your going to be temped to run the 35 unless its strictley a tender.
