I am curious whether anyone has seen the new Suzuki 4-strokes announced for 2009. I am considering buying and re-powering an '85 Montauk 17, and while I was very happy with the 1998 Johnson/Suzuki DF70 on the Whaler I sold last year, these new engines are lighter and the DF80 or 90 might be even better. A dealer told me he has no information on the engines, but the Suzuki website has information about them in the section directed toward the media, which is easily accessible by anyone. Anyone out there know anything about availability? Thanks.

Bob

Looks like a good repower choice for a classic Montauk. 348 lbs.

I do not see the weight listed anywhere in the specifications section of the .pdf linked to above.

Tom

It's there, the sixth line down on the specs. It took me a minute to find it when I looked at it also.

There it is. #41 pounds for the 20" shaft length. Note weight is with the battery cable but without the engine oil or propeller.

How many quarts does it hold?

341 pounds without oil. It holds four quarts. How silly is it to list a motor's weight without the oil? It's not as if you are going to use the motor without oil in it, or as if different oils have different weights.

So why don't we just cal it 350 pounds for comparison's sake. That's pretty darn good for a 90 HO four stroke. How much does Mercury's Fourstroke 90 weigh?

So for 4 stroke 90HP motors its...

Suzuki 350 pounds - Fuel Injected
Honda 365 Pounds** - Fuel Injected
Yamaha 369 Pounds - Fuel Injected
Mercury 399 Pounds - Fuel Injected

** Honda's new EFI 90 lists 365 as the weight for the 25 inch shaft - they only list 20 inch shaft as a tiller model - 359 pounds

For 2 stroke 90HP DFI you have

Evinrude E-TEC - 320 Pounds
Mercury Optimax - 375 Pounds
Nissan/Tohatsu TLDI - 315 Pounds
