Hello, Please help advise if it is acceptible to go with a 25 shaft length kicker on my '89 Montauk. It appears that most other owners go with the 20 kicker. Thanks. Jason

The only problem I would see having a 25" shaft kicker would be that the motor would likely still be partly in the water when tiltled up. This would create quite a bit of spray. If you plan to use a bracket rather than clamping it directly to the transom, you will probably be okay. I have used various 20" shaft kickers and some are very close to the water while others not much so.

Yes, the seventeen foot Whalers are designed for a 20" kicker motors clamped directly to the transom, port or starboard.

The use of a 25" shaft length kicker will result in the lower unit dragging in the water at some attitudes and a very slightly greater torsion on the transom from the kicker.
