Has anyone tried a 8 hp Sailmaster on their Montauk 17? It seems like the longer shaft and sailboat prop might work well for backtrolling and operating in heavy chop?

Should be a good match and weight is around 65lbs. Same weight as 6hp.

The Sailmaster motor probably also has good battery charging output.

I use an 8 hp outboard with a low pitch elephant ear (sailboat type) prop for trolling and back trolling on a 3500 lb welded aluminum inboard jet boat.

I probably have a couple of hundred hours doing this including back trolling in currents up to 5 mph, up to 4-5 hours at a time, tiller steered. I never need more than about 60% throttle

This type of prop works great for this application, and the twin cylinders reduce tiller vibration to a tolerable level.
