I am thinking of buying a 13-1/4 x 15 Stiletto propeller for my Yamaha 90 two-cycle. I currently have a OEM 13-1/4 x 16 black stainless steel propeller that runs 5100 rpm at WOT. Boat is a Guardian 17 with no bottom paint. Tell me what kind of difference I can expect. I have used the propeller calculator but wanted to know if the Stiletto brand made much difference. Anybody else try the two brands? Thanks

I bought one from Tom Clark and it brought my Yamaha 90 to life. I bought the boat with a 19k prop and it was a 17 montauk hull with a polling platform and a raised deck on the rear. With the stiletto and a jack plate I can get around 43 to 44 with GPS and 5400 to 5500 rpms. That is with 20 gallons of gas and two passengers. The boat also is much more responsive when loaded with the family and gear.

Hope this helps.
Tom

Hello Kaoman! Thanks for the spark plugs. My F60 with SS black yamaha prop also came alive with a great price on a SS Hot Shot Turbo purchased from Tom. He'll chime in. Thanks again, zot.

I have a yamaha saltwater series prop for a 225 yamaha Vmax on a 1973 21 foot outrage. My primary use is fishing, both inshore, and most importantly 50+ miles off shore. I usually run offshore with 1500 lbs of gear fuel and people.

Would a stilletto benefit me?

Any help appreciated.

Would

Oh yeah, it is a 15 1/4 inch diameter with a 21 inch pitch

I ended up talking to Steve @ Precision Propellers who are the manufacturers of Stiletto propellers. I have never talked to someone so helpful and knowledgable about propellers and the correct set ups. Talked for over half an hour and he never tried to sell me at all, just all the info I wanted and needed. Highly recomended.

What did they end up recommending for you?

He said the stock Yamaha black S.S. I have was a very good propeller and if I went to a 15" Stiletto from a 16" Yamaha there was a good chance I could get less rpms and not more because even though I was going down in pitch, the cupping and shape of the Stiletto blade would have more bite. ( short version) He did say that the Stiletto propellers do much better than the Yamahas when raising up the motor ( Stilettos will have less cavitation when raised ). He didn't really recommend a Stiletto, but rather told me what differences I could expect and why I may not be getting the speed I want.

Yes, Steve at Precision Propeller knows his stuff. He is a very knowledgeable and an easy person to talk to as are all the folks at Precision.

I also agree with Steve that the Yamaha Painted Stainless Steel propellers, which are a semi-cleaver design, are quite good, especially for boats that benefit from some stern lift.

I also concur that when going to Stiletto Advantage (or Turbo 1) you will need to drop two inches of pitch to maintain the same RPM; it just seems to be the design of the these props that they perform like a prop with more pitch than they have. If you want to gain RPM, then you need to drop even more pitch.

Steve is a very knowledgeable prop person, but don't forget that he works for Yamaha Corp. who purchased his Precision Propeller Service late last year.

Yes, that is perfectly true, however, I do not work for Yamaha.
