Seems sluggish compared to the normal motor for this class which is the 35 cu in 2 stroke 2 cylinder Evinrude 35 hp, but I think both of these motors are ideal for a 13 foot Whaler

The provider of the video says:

"The new GT 30 powered by Evinrudes E-Tec 30hp from Powertech Marine had its debut outing at Stewartby this weekend. The whole experience was a complete success achieving speeds of nearly 50mph in the hands of Ben Morse former Briitish J250 champion and then Sam Whittle, both clearly loved the performance and handling exiting the cockpit with broad grins. FSG Composites of Burntwood, Staffs. made a great job of the boat, and along with BRM Racing and who supplied props between them have provided an ideal platform for Evinrudes new Green E-Tec 30hp engine. This combination is going to provide a lively and afordable stepping stone from junior racing as the boat can also be run in that class with a 15hp engine. Watch out for more from Evinrude as they develop engines for other powerboat classes in the near future."

GT Pro outboard regularly competes in APBA OPC class races in the Great Lakes area. Here is the schedule for 2009. Unfortunately to far away for me. It will be interesting to see if the E-Tec can keep up with the older tech OMC motors that are also pushing 50mph. Mercury is no where to be seen in outboard racing anymore, with the exception of the large OPC tunnelhulls and Offshore. The Japanese engine, Yamato, is the most prevalent followed by OMC and Tohatsu.

Twin City Powerboat Assoc. Race Schedule 2009
June 6-7 Detroit Lakes, MN 3nd Annual "Quake the Lake"
June 14 Champlin, MN Father Hennepin Days
June 27-28 Pine City, MN on Pokegama Lake
July 11-12 Beloit, WI Riverfest
July 19 Hastings, MN River Town Days
July 25-26 Crosby, MN on Serpent Lake
August 1-2 Cumberland, WI tentative
Sept 5-7 Kankakee, IL OPC Nationals (national classes only)

Why wouldn't the new 35 cubic inch DFI 2-stroke E-TEC be able to keep up with the 31.8 cubic inch (520cc) carbureted OMC 2-stroke? DFI 2-strokes have much better throttle response than their carbureted counterparts and with more displacement, the E-TEC should be able to make more power and more torque. The only down side to the E-TEC that I see is that it weighs about 30 lbs more than the 32 cubic inch OMC 2-stroke. On the other hand, it will use a bit less fuel so the boat can probably carry a little less fuel to offset some of that weight.

I think the e-tec has a rev limiter, and can`t handle the high rpms like the older 31.8 OMCs. I don`t think fuel weight would be a factor as they only carry a gallon or so for the short duration heats. I don`t know what the difference in gear ratios are.
