We have two-gallons of sealed Mercury Plus two-cycle oil leftover, and we no longer have a Mercury motor. Can we safely run this in our 1990 Evinrude 60 two-cycle motor?

If it is TC-W3 certified on the label.

As far as I know, there is not a universal specification of outboard two-cycle oil that goes by brand names. Outboard two-cycle oil only seems to only be rated by one factor: it either complies with or does not comply with the TCW-III or TCW-3 specification.

Manufacturers typically recommend their own brand of oil be used, but they also typically specify that any oil can be used if it meets the TCW-III or TCW-3 specification.

If your Evinrude outboard motor specifies that it can use a TCW-3 oil, and if the Mercury branded oil you have is rated as compliant with TCW-3 specifications, there should be no problem in using the Mercury branded oil in an Evinrude motor

I searched for "Mercury Plus Two-cycle oil" but did not find any product. Perhaps you are asking about Mercury or QUICKSILVER Premium Plus two-cycle oil. The Mercury Premium Plus oil is a TCW-3 rated oil.

I run the wal-mart brand of 2 cycle marine engine oil in my 86 merc and my 2004 yamaha jet ski and they run just fine and never give me any reason to worry and it costs less than the mercury brand oil or yamalube oil. I don't think you have anything to worry about. as long as it's stated for that purpose.

Run what you like except Optimax oil. For some reason they do not recommend that in standard engines but you can run the XD-100 E-Tec oil in standard engines....go figure.

I use Johnson XD50 in my 1969 Chrysler outboard and he seems to be doing fine!
