Hello. [Give me your] experience on running a 115-HP motor on a 1973 Outrage 21, or any 1970's 21-foot hull. I am 25 miles from Daytona Beach, Floria, so if any member is close, I would like to experience first hand. I have a 1985 Evinrude 150-HP motor with carburetor on mine currently, but eventually I will have to re-power. Thanks,

Tommy

we ran an 1981 evinrude 140 on our 1972 outrage 21. when new it probably put out 115 HP as currently rated. and probably a bit less by the time we sold it last year. the 21 is so easy to plane we never really wanted more power, even when loaded with 10 people. we also water skied and tubed behind it no problem. it was really plenty of power for us. flat out we could reach the mid-30s. but we rarely cruised at more than mid twenty's due to near coastal conditions. I think 115-140hp is really the sweat spot for this hull and wouldn't hesitate at all to put another 115 on it.

I have a 76 Revenge 19' which is the same weight as the 21 outrage. I run a 2005 Suzuki 115 4 stroke on a 6" jackplate raised about 4.5" turning a 14x22 Stiletto prop. I get about 40 on a good day and 36+ with 6 people, gear and full tank....weight does not bother her much. She is a dream to drive, nice cruise of about 25mph at 4k and gets 5-6mpg at cruise and averages about 2.5gph per tank which is great with only a 40 gal tank. You will double your range over that old cross flow 150. I have heard many with the 140 Suzuki do not get any better numbers than me for some reason so I would save my money. If you can get a 130-140 for less than a grand more I would go for it but for the money the 115 is the best bang for your buck. You won't be dissappointed unless you need to go 45+. I am in Tampa Bay area and am President of the Gulf Coast Boston Whaler's Owner's Assoc which you can join for free and attend our rendezvous. Lastly, Janis has a 21 Outrage with a 115 or 130 Yamaha 2 smoke in Deland on the river, she might be able to give you a ride.

While on vacation last week on Cape Cod I spent some time playing with a 1972 Outrage 21 with an E-TEC 90. It was a superb combination that can go 34 MPH and will pop up on plane even heavily loaded.

The boat had most recently been powered by a conventional two stroke Yamaha 115 and did about 40 MPH with that motor.

With the lightweight motor, the boat floats very high and should get very good fuel economy.

Just FYI for Revenge owners...lightweight engines are not good on this boat due to the heavy bow/cabin. When we had a 100hp Evinrude on ours it was basically useless in reverse and would just cavitate if pushed hard. You had to be real carefull docking. The heavy 416lb 115 I have seems to be fine, my rear corners still barely float above water with it.

Wild man Whaler pal Dale runs a 200 FICHT on his 71 Outrage 21 and regularly on Lake Michigan in all kinds of conditions. It will go 50 easy and he loves the fuel economy. He trolls for salmon with the same motor and took off his Honda kicker because the Evinrude does so well in any condition. However, he said next motor will be less HP, probably 150 and he will go ETEC.
