I recently re-rigged my 1998 Ventura 18 with a brand new Mercury 115 EFI FOURSTROKE. [The VERADITO model--jimh]. First run out with 20-gallons of fuel on board and two adult passengers, 7.5-HP kicker motor and fuel tank, dual batteries, DoelFin installed, 16 pitch stainless Vengeance Prop, engine mounted in third hole up; GPS Speed readings:3000 RPM = 8-MPH
4000 RPM = 19.5-MPH
5000 RPM = 27.7-MPH
5400 RPM = 29-MPH
6000 RPM = 36.5-MPH
At the end of the day with just me driving and only about 10 gallons left in the tank I managed to hit 39.9-MPH at 6,000-RPM. I'm used to the more exciting performance of my 1997 200 DFI; with a 21 pitch Tempest Plus I hit 57-MPH at 5,200 RPM and cruised easily at 36-MPH at 3,500-RPM at 8-GPH.
The new owner of my boat was impressed with the quietness of the four-cycle outboard engine and I guess the performance was okay for him. I'm at least pleased that the 16-pitch Vengeance worked very well at that engine height. Felt like it could maybe even go higher. So now I am boatless and on the hunt, again. Wanting a new SuperSport 15 or 17.
