I should probably be directing this to Tom Clark, but for what it's worth--Tom, please feel free to interject--I'm changing the power and setup on my 18 Outrage and wanted your input.
I'm removing the 35-inch Armstrong Bracket and 1995 Johnson 150-HP Oceanrunner. In its place, will be a 10-inch set back hydraulic jack plate with a 2012 Evinrude E-TEC 150-HP.
In consideration of this hull being slightly stern heavy to begin with (solid transom Sea Drive Model), what would your "starting" choice be with regard to the propeller?
I say "starting", because the dealer (very competent) will make his suggestion and I would rather speed the process up if there comes a concensus opinion. If that makes any sense??
I'm looking for good hole shot, good top-end performance and good hull attitude. In other words, the perfect prop!

I'd say start with a 19-pitch three-blade like a REBEL or MIRAGEplus, but, then, what do I know?

Stay away from the Viper props, they are not a good match for the classic Whaler hull. I have not seen a single Whaler owner who has tried this prop and kept in on an E-Tec.
Having the jack plate may allow you to swing a little more pitch. A prop in the 18-19" pitch range will be what you end up with

hauptjm--you seem to imply you are necessarily going to install a BRP propeller on your new E-TEC 150. If this is the case, your choices are fairly limited and simple.
I would start with a 14-1/4" x 19" BRP Viper. I believe it is the best BRP prop for a classic Outrage 18 with an Evinrude 150.
The 15-3/8" x 18" BRP Rebel would be my second choice but I think it is a better fit on Whaler starting at 20 feet and going up. For the Outrage 18, the smaller blade area will be better.
But try them both and let us know which works best for you and your boating conditions.

What propeller was being used with the Johnson 150? I have a Johnson 150 (uses a Magnum gearcase like the original E-TECs did) equipped with an old style 14 1/2 x 19 SST II on my Outrage 18. I've found that propeller seems to work well.

Thanks for the comments. I may have not be clear about my choices, because I don't have to utilize a BRP prop. Mercury and Yamaha would be available via my dealer as well. Thanks again.

In that case, I recommend the 14-1/4" x 19" Stiletto Advantage 4.75 (a.k.a. YAMAHA Performance Series Three Blade or TURBO Turbo 1).

I have the 150 etec on my 18 with the 19p rebel prop and I'm still grinning ear to ear 6 yrs later. Incredible hole shot, rpm, and with no trim tabs, great hull tracking. The perfect prop! Rpms @5200 + and depending on chop, mid/ high 40's

I found that the Viper 17 on my 1990 Outrage 19 and 2007 150 E-TEC mounted all the way up,AV plate 1 1/2" above the keel did quite well. Hole shot was great,trimmed out at wot at 5650 rpm,1/2 tank of fuel one person and bim. top deployed at 48 mph. Make sure you prop to optimum rpm on your E-TEC. His gearbox,the M2, is a bit different as to the fact that it now has low water pick-up in the nose cone.The front edge was moved foreward to allow the water to pass to the pump.Gears are stronger as well.

Are these Mercury manufactured props? If not, who? If so, how difficult is it to adapt these to a BRP product?

The 19" pitch Stiletto Advantage for your boat happens to have a 14-1/4" diameter.
The 19" pitch BRP Viper for your boat happens to have a 14-3/4" diameter.
You do not choose diameter; when you select a model of propeller and the appropriate pitch, the propeller designers have already decided what the diameter is.
The MIRAGEplus is a Mercury propeller. The BRP Rebel is BRP's imitation of it.
These days almost all large outboard propellers use square bore hub kits like Mercury's Flo-Torq and BRP's TBX, so any propeller can be used on any brand of outboard with the appropriate hub kit.

Tom, thanks for the clarification. I spoke with the dealer this morning and we're going to start with the BRP Viper. Apparently, there is a special promotion going on at BRP that could be financially advantageous.
