After much research and due diligence. I have decided to repower my 25 WA with twin E-TEC 250s. Now the question is What type of prop will best compliment this hull motor combination? Previous discussions on this board were very helpful in making the engine selection on this project. I now look forward to the discussion in this thread to help in this important decision.

Either a pair of 14-5/8" x 17" Mercury Revolution 4 or a pair of 14-1/8" x 18" BRP Cyclone.
Be sure the motors are mounted as high as they can be using the fourth set of bolt holes in the motor mounting bracket:

The 17 inch Revolution 4s would be my choice. I ran a pair of those on my Whaler 27 WD/Evinrude 225s. They provide excellent traction in rough seas.

I would think twin 250s would be able to swing 19 pitch props on a 25ft hull. Mirage Plus, Enertias or Rev 4s.

*Maybe*, especially if Peter was able to run 17" Rev 4s on his Whaler 27 with less power, but remember, the Whaler 25 Walkaround (aka "Widebody") is a unique hull, much larger than the classic 25 foot Revenge/Outrage/Temptation/Frontier models.
How fast is a Whaler 25 Walkaround with 500 HP? That is the question.

The REVOLUTION4 is a very heavy propeller. If you use the conventional FLO-TROQ II hub with a REVOLUTION4 you will get an enormous CLUNK when shifting. Is there a FLO-TORQ hub for application of a REVOLUTION4 on an Evinrude E-TEC that would reduce the CLUNK? Or, are you stuck with a FLO-TORQ II hub?

I had this same boat but different motors so I can't personally say what the ETEC will run the best. However V6 225 Optimax which were operating with 19p Mercury Enertia's gave really nice performance in all regards. I can't see why a nice new pair of ETEC 250's would be much different. They offer two storke power. I was using Mirage plus props but they did not offer as good fuel milage and the top end speed was slower. Its a big boat to turn and it needs big power espeically in large swells with chop.

Tom I think it should achieve close to 50. I was able to get 48 with V6 225.

If it's a 50 MPH boat then yes, 14-5/8" x 19" Revolution 4s would be my first choice.
15-1/4" x 19" PowerTech! OFS4s would be worth trying as well.

Jim -- No, there is still no Flo-Torq IV for a BRP/OMC motor.
An alternative is the use a Solas Rubex hub which is rubber instead of Delrin plastic. Not as soft as a Flo-Torq IV but softer than a Flo-Torq II.
If using a Power Tech! propeller, you can use their proprietary Cushion-Lok hub system which can be adjusted for softness with different hub components.

I am not familiar with the Cushion-Lok hub. Perhaps Tom can start a new thread on the Cushion-Lok and explain more about it. I think many would be interested.

Excellent point Jim about the smoothness of the shifting. With the way I run the boat there is usually a lot of shifting in and out of gear when I maneuver, as such as very smooth shift is high on my list of desirable characteristics. So if the Mercury Revolution would have a pronounced clunk with each shift, how would the BPR Cyclone or the PowerTech! OFS4 fair?

Don--You should try the REVOLUTION4 to see if it meets your needs for quiet shifting with the FLO-TORQ II hub.

The Rev 4, Cyclone and OFS4 are all big heavy stainless steel propellers. The MIRAGEplus is too.
If you don't like the clunk, use the Solas Rubex hub kits. They are the poor man's Flo-Torq IV

How does the Solas Rubex compare to PowerTech's Cushion-Lok? I have read some very good comments about the Cushion-Lok.

My E-TEC has the Magnum M2 gear case, a MIRAGEplus, and a FLO-TORQ II hub kit. The shift has a bit of clunk, but nothing like what I used to hear with the REVOLUTION4 I tried many years ago. I would like to try the REVOLUTION4 propeller on my boat. I just haven't had the opportunity.

I think you will find the Magnum M2 gearcase is robust and designed to accommodate propellers like these.
