Hello! Any comments on the maximum transom weight for a 1971 Boston Whaler NAUSET? Or the maximum horsepower? The current set up includes a fiberglass center console and small leaning post--very light. Battery is mounting in the rear corner. Boat's been trailered all its life, and hull is sound and in good shape. What are the limits I should consider? Thanks. |

[Moved to PERFORMANCE.] The maximum horsepower is given by Boston Whaler as 100-HP. See the specifications in the REFERENCE section:
For a 1971 NAUSET also see: http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/16-17/ As far as I know, Boston Whaler never published a specification for maximum transom weight. There was a rather informed discussion on the topic of imputed engine weights for boats like this. See
The above discussion reaches some conclusions based on various methods of calculation. Feel free to ignore all of that in favor of other advice that is more to your liking. |

On my Montauk I had a 300-lb 90-HP Evinrude and a 45-lb kicker with no [problems]. I would not put much more than that on there, though. She is over 40-years old. |
