I had the pleasure of spending the last couple days running my 1966 16-foot Boston Whaler boat with a new E-TEC 60-HP engine. My dealer completed the boat Saturday, and I put it in the water that afternoon. The weather was too good to pass up--been a long winter for these parts! What a sweet little engine for this boat. It's a blast to run.
It's just a basic rig-up for now using the existing fiberglass console and configuration to get it on the water. Mahogany console, bench seat and rear seat to be installed. Still prepping them for varnish.
In any event here are some very basic performance numbers. Aluminum prop (embarrassed to say I don't know the size!), two people, moderate load, 20-MPH southwest wind, calm to moderate chop. 32-MPH top end at 5750-RPM; 20- to 25-MPH and 2.5 to 3-GPH fuel consumption according to the Evinrude display. Looks like about 8-MPG cruise.
Acceleration is very crisp once on plane. Time to plane is great too. It'll eases right up to planing transition. Quiet too. XD-100 oil ratio and no smoke.
Initial impression on this combination is it's great. As I play more I'll submit more detailed performance data.
