I recently purchased a Yamaha muti function tachometer for my sons 13 sport with a 2002 yamaha 40. I did a loose wire (meaning I did not do a permanent mount) to try it out but at WOT it only read 2300 rpm. Is there an adjustment switch on this unit? On the back is a rubber seal that, when removed, reveals what appears to be a set of small switches. What should these be set at?

The three small switches under the rubber cover
on the back of the tachometer are dip switches.
Following are the Dip switch functions:

SW-1 SW-2 SW-3

Dip switch Trim Sensor Generator Engine
Function Type Type Type

ON * 2 lead 6 Pole 4 stroke
OFF * 3 lead 12 Pole 2 stroke

* number of wire leads on trim sensor

The factory setting for the switches are:

SW-1 ON
SW-2 OFF
SW-3 OFF

This would corresponds to an engine that has a two lead trim sensor (SW-1), 12 pole generator/alternator (SW-2) and the engine would two cycle (SW-3). The tachometer should have had a green hang tag with this information.

For some reason the matrix gets screwed up when it's posted.
I'll e-mail it to you.
