My Standard Horizon CD/Radio has finally given in to six seasons of salt, sun and fun. What brand and model is recommended? Seems to me that Standard Horizon has gotten out of the CD/Radion business, but I want good quality as everything is pumped out through good Bose speakers. Please share recommendations and experiences, and I promise to all that I'll keep the volume down.

What is suggested to run the Ipod through as an amp to the speakers? I would like to find a unit that I could mount in the whaler console that would have inputs for either the IPOD or the XM radio, (or preferably both) that does not have am/fm tuner or cd player in it as these would not get used.Any one else have this delema. While I've found marine power amplifiers, some with speaker-level inputs, which would accept either the headphone level of an iPod or the line-level output from an iPod base, I haven't found radio-less marine preamplifiers or marine integrated amplifiers, that perform the preamplifier functions of input source switching, etc. that could be used with both iPod and XM/Sirius. Certainly, there are marine radios that do.As far as waterproofing for the iPod for a cabinless boat, I don't recall any with waterproof access to the line level output at the base. They also implement waterproofing of the headphone jack in different ways, some better than others. -- Moe

I just purchased a Jensen am/fm/cd/xm radio with poly plannar speakers from BOE from the Hull Truth. Great price and looks nice. I did a lot of research and this seems to be the best that I found. My installer just installed it this past week so I haven't heard it yet. I will let you know as soon as I get down to the boat.Scott |

Brian,I just picked up a Sony something or other for $115 at Best Buy. It will play CD's, MP3, am/fm, and has an front panel Mini jack to plug in the Ipod. As an added bonus, it came with a remote control. I'm going to install it behind a splash cover to keep the Mackeral blood out (and water too). I'll let you know how it holds up. |
