I’m buying a new Montauk 15 in February. Now I’m looking at GPS and Fish finders combos .One was Humminbird 787C2 fish finder & chart plotter or Garman 178C fish finder & chart plotter. Now the one that just caught my eye was Garman 276C portable land & sea package, because I wheel in the bush with my jeep and the GPS that I use in my jeep is old. Are the GPS and fish finder & chart plotter combos Good Please some feed back….Nick.

I have the humminbird Matrix 97 it has worked very well for two years now. It sits on my boat outside on the lift in a saltwater enviroment.

Can't say anything bad about it.

I have the Garmin 178, not the color model, on my boat, and am very happy with it.

I use a Garmin 276C in my boat, in my vehicle and in my pocket on internal battery when afoot in strange territory, Nick. Had it two years now and never any problem. I did buy an extra, blank 256Mb card. I haven't yet exceeded the capacity. There are blank cards available on ebay up to 512Mb.

As far as I know, only the newer (and more costly) versions are as versatile or more versatile. Those newer models have added features for monitoring weather, etc.

Of course, it isn't a SONAR unit, but will work with the Garmin Sonar accessory (don't remember the model of that). I prefer the Eagle stand alone SONAR that stays in the boat.

Yes, I would like a larger screen when on the boat and I sometimes need to shade the screen to read it in strong sun. When I am afoot I am glad it isn't any bigger. :)

I use Mapsource CDs in my PC: U.S. Recreational Lakes and City Navigator V8 (upgraded from City Select V5 and V6). There are a variety of other packages for particular interests.

If I had to replace it I would probably get another 276C. I suppose that is a recommendation.

Garmin's website doesn't list their external SONAR box as
an accessory for the 276C.

You are correct, of course, Chuck.

My error. Even if it was I would stick with my Eagle for Sonar.
