The voltmeter is not showing a charge. [The boat] has fairly new blue-top gel [batteries]. All connections are clean. As much as I understand internal combustion engines and electricity, I don't know squat about how outboards charge batteries.Thanks for [a] link or any basic information. mk

If you have a tachometer not working, there is a chance the rectifier is dead.

Boat voltmeter, or your voltmeter?

If the boat's, try yours, measured at the battery. Please post
the readings from your voltmeter.

thx all, basically I was looking for Jims boat electric 101 article that I read some time ago an couldnt find because I was too tired and lazy...

I will test, and report here before I do anything drastic.

Come to think of it, my Fluke multi purpose tester burned up.
