According to some observers at a recent European electronics show, the Navman brand of marine electronics appears about to become marketed as the Northstar brand, at least in some regions. Northstar was showing a whole new line of products, all of which were virtually identical to existing Navman devices, with the exception of the familiar blue control buttons changed to gray. No official word from either Northstar or Navman. Stay tuned for announcements. Here is how the often mentioned NAVMAN FUEL 3100 instrument appears as a NORTHSTAR device, shown as the Explorer F310 model:

And the entangled web of brand names and manufacturers gets even more convoluted. It is starting to feel like organized crime, with dummy corporations, "brand laundering" (selling someone the right to use a brand name regardless of product origin), and other such artifices. I predict 10 years from now it will be virtually impossible to find out by whom (or where) any particular product was actually built. |

I am on my second Navman/Northstar 3100 and both unit displays have gone out. The units are always protected when not in use. I am searching for something else that will fit in the hole. I have had my fill of this product line. |

My FUEL 3100 Instrument still works perfectly. It is the best fuel management gauge I have ever seen. I cannot live without it. But that is not the topic of this discussion. This three-year old discussion was focused on the joining of the brands of NAVMAN and NORTHSTAR, not on the 3100 FUEL Instrument. ASIDE: I am always curious why someone would register on a discussion forum and make their first posting a revival of a three-year-old discussion, change the topic, and then announce they will never buy from a particular manufacturer again. |
