I was told that corrosion in my boat was caused by the boat being grounded by the gas gauge being being hooked up wrong. The ground for the sender was connected to the tank. I bought a new sender, which has a tab on the sender for ground. It has insulated screws so the sender is isolated from the tank, BUT, the gasket that goes between the sender and the tank has a grounding staple through it that the instructions say, "do not remove grounding staple". With the staple in, the sending unit is now grounded to the tank. Why insulate the screws if there is a staple grounding it anyway? If the sender is grounded to the tank, then my original hookup was OK. Does this make enough sense for anyone to enlighten me?
