Anyone know of a VHF radio that has a faceplate that can be installed on the console and the main unit can be stored inside the console protected from the elements.

I think Standard Horizon made a radio like this but they no longer offer it. Any help is appreciated.

Thks,

Fred

I have not seen a Marine VHF Radio with a removable face plate and control panel. There are several radios available with a remote microphone with just about complete controls.

A recent discussion on this topic revealed that the PS-1000 and PS-2000 Standard-Horizon black box radios were no longer being made, although some old stock might still be available.

You can get a Standard-Horizon radio with a full control panel and a remote microphone, and just mount the radio out of sight if you like. It is a little more expensive than the black box models.

I recommend getting a DSC radio with a Class-D rating. The least expensive one I have found is the Standard-Horizon GX-1500-S, and it sells for less than $135 at most retailers. You can add a remote microphone for about $100. The total price of this set up is about the same as the PS-2000 radio was. And you get the advantage of a full control panel on the radio.
