Does anyone have any direct experience with the Garmin 440s GPS-Plotter-Sounder? I've been looking at several models from different manufacturers and this one seems to give me what I want. It's compact, seemingly user friendly and cost effective. My Outrage 18 console is not large, so compact size is a consideration.

I bought a 540s just to get a bigger screen. It's hard to see a small screen bouncing a round on an Outrage 18. So far I like it.Con |

I agree with the suggestion to move up. Bigger screen means more information, better visibility. The 545 will be easier to read in direct sunlight. The 540 is ok, but the combination of polarized glasses and glare are challenging. |

I appreciate the replies. I went ahead with the 440s mainly for size. I mounted it this weekend and it works great. I'm not one for concentrating on the screen for long periods, so it works well for me. It really has some great features that I played with this weekend. I can get information for tidal, lunar, fuel availability and location, along with other sources. I sampled one of the fuel responses and it was very accurate to my location. Even provided me with phone numbers to the marina and other pertinent information. Very neat! I'm heading down to Orange Beach, AL for a week to take my boys fishing, so I'll get a chance to use it extensively. I'll report back with my experience along with lots of fish (hopefully). |
