[Give me] any comments [in favor or against] these old units: an Apelco 460 fish finder and a Garmin 128. I purchased a used Apelco 460 fish finder and a Garmin GPS unit 128. I fish mainly in Virginia in the James River, Chesapeake Bay, and the ocean 30 miles out. I verified that the fish finder works. I do not know much about GPS plotting, as of yet. I do not do any extensive pleasure boating; mainly fishing. I need something to get me to my favorite fishing spots, reefs, inshore wrecks, etc,, and get me back home again. |

In favor of the two units you mention is the fact that you already own them. We do not offer any courses or any sort of organized data about the Global Positioning System. There are many websites which have good tutorials about the Global Positioning System. Try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Positioning_System. To learn the fundamentals of small boat navigation, I recommend you take a course from the U.S. Power Squadron or the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. These are terrific fraternal boating organizations which offer outstanding education in small boat navigation. CONTINUOUSWAVE has nothing like their courses. |
