Just thought I'd throw this out there to anyone interested. I was at Bass Pro today and had some time to play with the new HDS units. The HDS 8 and 10 both arrived in stock this morning. These units were not the Lake Insight versions. The maps included were good but not remarkable, nothing like the Navionics Platinum maps. Another thing I noticed was that the interface is very slow to move between screens. It seemed to be very slow to change from sonar view, to map view, to combo views through the new interface. However, the screens are absolutely beautiful. There are many mulitfunction buttons on the bottom of the screen that seem to be well utilized in the interface. Three of the HDS 10 units sold in the hour that I was there, so they are selling well. Be interesting to see how these units are reviewed when mounted and used for a long period of time. |

It appears the units do support Navonics maps.

There was a guy with his '09 Navionics platinum Card there, couldn't seem to get it to work on the 7, 8, or 10. The Lowrance guys said they think there's a software update coming real soon to correct this. I've also read (panbo) that the Lake Insight maps are as good (or better) than the Navionics. It'll be fun to watch. Another guy there said he was at the Classic last weekend, said Lowrance will have Side Imaging but that it will only be one sided, should have some photos and pricing around July. It will work with the HDS units. |
