Need to install a new ingition switch on a Rage with the 50HP Yamaha jet drive. The Yamaha ignition is over $100 bucks and plenty of aftermarket units are available for much less, but I haven't seen one specified for the Yamaha or a wiring diagram for correct hook-up. Anybody got suggestions here. |

Itchin , I wanted the flush mount ignition switch for my 9.9 Yam kicker for when I convert it to twin binnacle with my ETEC 200HO. I found the same the Yam part with buzzer was too expensive ($200) and so got the Evinrude kit with buzzer for less and it matches my existing. I think you can see the Yam switch in the whaler ref article on fitting a 8hp Kicker. I can scan and post wiring diagrams for both Yam control box and Evinrude switch so we can double check wiring/colours. Regards |

I looked at the diagrams but I'm still not sure on the hook-up. For Yamaha (at least the one I'm working on) there is Red, Black, Yellow, White, Brown. Hot, ground, Ignition on, Ignition stop, Ignition start - respectively. Just not sure how that corresponds to the poles on aftermarket switches. Most have a magneto pole and a push to choke feature. Not sure about start and stop circuits. |

I'm not a sure myself, just funmbling my way through trying to match the obvious, did you look here : http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/wireColorCode.html Regards |

Steve--Thanks so much for posting that scan of the wiring diagram. I looked at it and found that it is possible to establish a complete one-for-one correlation between the Yamaha wiring and the typical OMC wiring, and for each color of wire in one system there is a corresponding (although usually different) color in the other system. With your information it should be possible to deduce the wiring needed as discussed above. |

Jim No thank you, I was hoping you would take this up for me. It's the only thing missing in the excellent adding a kicker in the reference section. You also need the colours for the Evinrude buzzer p/n 176361 2 wires 1) tan/blue stripe and 2) Purple wire. Let me know if you need any pictures as I have the Evinrude switch and buzzer at home. I will track down (if part is not at dealers) for the binnacle wiring, I may have the single already but it’s the dual that better as the switch that raises/lowers both engines at the same time should not as I was advised not to mix different engine electrical systems, unless you advise otherwise Regards |
