I just updated my Lowrance 332c sonar/GPS unit software. Since I have an external LGC-2000 GPS antenna, the update notes on the Lowrance instructions highlight in red that the antenna software needs to be updated FIRST. What it does not make clear is that if you download both the antenna update and the system update to the same MMC/SD chip, you will be in trouble because the system software loads automatically on power up. The antenna update requires a few "keystrokes" on the 332c to install. Make sure you do this in two steps by downloading only the LGC-2000 update and installing this first. I found this low cost $10 "kit" that allows you to use a micro SD chip (includes a 1 gig chip)with adapters to download to your PC's USB port and then uplaod to the 332C via a SD adapter: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details. asp?EdpNo=4387948&CatId=1779 Following the Lowrance instructions made the installation painless. All the data in the 332c remained in tact. If you are using charts other than those built into the 332c you will need to reload them as you did the first time. The results of the update seem to be a much faster satellite lock with WAAS. I have not gotten the "GPS Antenna not responding" message since the update. |
