I know from prior posts going back a few years that Garmin no longer makes the Mini-G chart chips for its GPSMap Sounder 185 model, and that finding the chips on e-Bay, etc., is a difficult. My questions are: Can anyone tell me how to find out the correct chip number(s) and chart coverage descriptions for mid-coast Maine (Casco Bay to Harpswell, Harpswell to mouth of Kennebec, mouth of Kennebec to Pemaquid Point, Pemaquid to Port Clyde)? Does anyone out there have any one of these chips they can part with -- particularly waters in and around New Meadows, Kennebec, Sheepscot and Damariscotta Rivers? Any new information of possible sources? |

A- Here is the page from Garmin with the map #'s. Note, these are for the G-charts and NOT the blue chart Large Charts: http://www8.garmin.com/cartography/offshore/region.jsp?RegionPK=10050 Medium and Small Charts: http://www8.garmin.com/cartography/offshore/region.jsp?RegionPK=10051 I see that these are dated a few years ago, some as long as 2001. I would be very wary of using them. In Portland, the navigation aids and channels are moved significantly every other year. (I mark the new locations as Waypoints to keep the 172C blue chart correct) |
