Howdy Folks. I have a 1998 [Mercury OptiMax] 150 XL [serial number] OG743453. The powerhead on this motor seems to have been replaced, as it says it has a 1999 [model year] on it. I have a slightly rough idle and it occasionally quits while trolling at idle speeds. It was suggested to me that this may be [caused by a defect in] the TPS's. It has two, I assume one for low rpm and th other for higher. I thought I'd try to replace this and see if it takes care of the problem. There's also an occasional problem with lots of smoke and oil upon re-starting after sitting for an hour or so, and then it runs clean.

I need to find part numbers to check on prices for this. It seems like a pretty simple replacement. No significant adjustments necessary, right?

Many many thanks for any help!

Thanks Jimh--- I had looked there before, but i can't find the throttle position sensor assembly in any of their diagrams; unless it's called something else? I have the service manual for this engine, but not the part numbers.

Thanks
BKelly

That was it-- it was also in the diagram from jimh-- I just didn't think it would be part of the engine block diagram!!
I certainly appreciate the help, gents!
