I'm considering a Raymarine Ray 49 VHF for my Striper 15, and I was curious if anyone had any opinions on it. I didn't find anything searching the site.

I'm looking for something priced near $200. I don't need a top of the line radio for my purposes, but I don't want junk either. I only have two purposes for needing the radio, safety and emergencies, and finding out where the fish are :).

The Ray49 seems to meet my basic requirements, DSC with NMEA input, NOAA alerts, channel scanning.

Any comments or suggestions for other models are welcome.

Oh yeah, another one I had looked at was the ICOM 422. The only significant difference I see between it and the Ray49 is the addition of a hailer.

Raymarine VHF Marine Band radios are good devices.

Among VHF Marine Band radios priced at $200 or less, I would also consider the Standard-Horizon GX1500S.
