I believe the question is as follows: Is there a benefit from using a battery charger that is said to possess a de-sulfating characteristic?] Some cursory study of the topic reveals that the electronics involved with a desulfator are pretty simple, unless I missed something.

You raise an interesting question. The makers of specialty chargers that are claimed to provide de-sulfating characteristics seem to be proud of them. I don't have any personal knowledge on this topic.
