GARMIN has given us a one-day preview of new products to be introduced at the marine equipment trade show (METS) in Amsterdam. See the GARMIN blog for details at For the small boat electronic department, there will be new 8-inch and 10-inch multifunction displays in a GPSMAP 800 and GPSMAP 1000 series. They will have a chirp or pulse-compression SONAR built-in, a 10-Hz GPS receiver, and the new DownVü (that's a U with an umlaut in styled text). There are more details now at http://sites.garmin.com/marine2014/inland/?lang=en&country=us |

Garmin products GPS chartplotter products have been my personal choice for a number of years because I have found their user interface easiest to use. I'm surprised (perhaps a bit disappointed although I'm not in the market for any devices at this time) that they are not offering the 8 and 10 inch XS models with a touch screen. Now that I've had a full season with two Garmin touch screen chartplotter/sounders, I would not go back to a device that was only push button controlled. |
