| Author | Topic: NAVICO: Price Reductions in 8-inch Combo Devices |

In notice there recently have been some significant price reductions from NAVICO in the 8-inch multi-function display or instrument category. In the SIMRAD line, the NSS-8 was selling for around $2,000 at a discounted price, but it has recently been selling for as low as $1,300. That is a rather dramatic $700 price reduction. In the LOWRANCE line, the HDS-8 Gen2 price has also been reduced. Previously the HDS-8 Gen2 was selling for about $1,800. It is now reduced to around $1,100 to $1,200. The price reductions may have been made to stimulate more sales. Or, perhaps they are intended to clear out inventory in preparation for a new product announcement. In either case, the reduced prices make these models much more affordable. |

It is amazing how quickly new developments in electronics technology renders prior technology somewhat antiquated, and cheaper. In 1980, I purchased my first Si-Tex LORAN receiver that was listed for $1800 for $1300. In 1988, I purchased my second Si-Tex unit (797) for $599. In 1993, I traded in my Lowrance paper graph depth sounder and a digital Eagle 7200 unit to purchase a Lowrance LMS 350A Combo depthfinder and GPS unit for a difference of about $300. I purchased my Lowrance LCX 26C HD for about $900 in 2005. I now have a Lowrance HDS-7 Gen2, and am very please with all the upgrades and innovations that it provides. |
