In a few days I'll be getting a 1999 C60 Yamaha outboard engine with side-mount controls. I can pick up a generic top-mount shift and throttle. Can I remove from the Yamaha side-mount controls the switch for the trim and tilt, the ignition switch, the tachometer sensor wire, and whatever else is in there, and mount them on the boat's dashboard?rich

As long as you maintain the electrical circuits, the electrical components do not really care where they are mounted. If you can disassemble the control and remove the electrical components, I don't see any reason why they would not work in a new location. The only concern is for the NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH; it must maintain its mechanical linkage to the shift lever. |

Thought I would get more replys one this one. Used top mount controls for my engine with 703 side mount are not easy to find.rich |

Rich - can't you use a Yamaha 704 top mounted control? They are about $220 new or $100 used. Add a Yamaha ignition switch $95 new. |

Ridge, I haven't found a good used Yamaha top mounted control yet. However I have a good Honda top mount that the Yamaha dealer said will work. From what jimh and others have told me I can use the existing harness and mount it on the dash. Can I use the existing switch from the side mount.rich |

I couldn't find any good used stuff, and even if I did, and put it all together, and it didn't work, I wouldn't know whether the parts were faulty or my work was faulty. Used parts aren't that cheap anyway. So today I ordered all new parts, a Yamaha single control binnicle box, a Panel switch assembly, and a 16' main harness. $460. List from the dealer is $618 with tax. It all just plugs together. I'll use the shift and throttle cables from the side mount box, they're in good shape.rich
