Boat instrumentation systems using NMEA-2000 networks and multi-function displays can monitor the level in a fluid tank by use of a NMEA-2000 adaptor or convertor that will connect to a resistive-type float level sender. I explain this in more detail in a new REFERENCE article. Please see
NMEA-2000 Instrumentation: Fluid Tank Level Monitoring
Many boats in the USA have a fuel tank that already has a standard 33-Ohm to 24-Ohm resistive float level sender, usually connected to a small electrical gauge. The same sensor can be adapted for use with a NMEA-2000 fluid tank level convertor, such as the inexpensive Lowrance EP-65R.
