The launch of the ninth GPS satellite in the II-F series is scheduled for Wednesday, March 25, 2015, with a launch window opening at 2:26 p.m. from Cape Canaveral, Florida.

The IIF-9 satellite will be first GPS launch of 2015. The satellite is believed to be designated SVN-71 and to use PRN-26. The intended orbital plane is believed to be B1F. This data from

http://earth-info.nga.mil/GandG/sathtml/satinfo.html

The satellite will be carried into orbit atop a DELTA IV Medium+ (4,2) launch vehicle.

A webcast of the launch will be available on launch day from

The GPS IIF series of satellites carry the legacy signals, L1 C/A, L1 P(Y),and L2 P(Y). They add new signals for civilian use at the L2 and L5 carrier, and improve military signals at the L1 and L2 carriers. More information on the GPS IIF series from

There is a condensed recording of the pre-launch and launch of GPS IIF-9 available on YouTube at

https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=54&v=T7hnPaMzR5M

The skill in photographing, editing, and setting to music used in making this recording is at a level that is appropriately high to match the skill in creating and launching the satellite. It is quite worth the two-minutes time to play it.

A longer, 4-minute recording in very high definition with excellent sound shows a launch-pad ground-level view of the launch. Watch and listen with good sound reproduction equipment to enjoy this to the fullest:

A super-SLO-MO version is also available:

The first two minutes of the above are quite interesting.

The last week of March was a very busy month for launches of GNSS space vehicles. China sent up a new BEiDOU satellite. India launched an IRNSS satellite. And the European consortium lofted two more GALILEO satellites. Reports can be found at:
