I am looking for information about best practices for providing stern electrical access on a post classic 2008 Montauk 170. I recently purchased the boat and am beginning to outfit it for some upcoming fishing trips and would like to mount two stern electric downriggers. Are there existing sleeves or access points to the center console anywhere in the stern? Or, is the only option to run power along the gunwale to the bow or along the floor to the console?

In a perfect world, I'd love to install a covered 12-Volt outlet, but I am not super-handy and am hoping not to spend a lot of money on the retrofit. Any advice or suggestions? Thanks!--Chris

Chris--I recommend you visit the website

Use the left-side hierarchical menus to navigate to the drawing index for your year (2008) and model (170 MONTAUK) Boston Whaler boat. You will find pictorial drawings showing the boat's construction.

shows the path of rigging cables from the center console to the transom area.

Also consult the drawing titled HARNESS INSTALLATION. See

You may also wish to browse the many other detailed drawings that reveal the construction of your boat.

I also recommend you contact Boston Whaler Customer Service. They can offer advice for this project. I believe in some years there may have been an option offered for rigging electrical connectors for down rigger motors.
