For my new Lowrance HDS7 Gen3 I looked into the Navionics charting options. There are two versions of the Navionics+ card available, a 2-GB and a 16-GB version, and the difference is significant. The 16-GB version has all the charts for the US and Canada preloaded, and the 2-GB does not. Check the small print on the back of the package under the window. Once the box is opened it cannot be returned to the store. Through Navionics the replacement will require you to purchase the replacement at MSRP, pay tax and shipping, receive a RMA, and then return the prior purchase. You pay return shipping. Shipping for a DVD size package from Massachusetts to New Jersey was $14.81.

You can ship a small item using the United State Postal Service Priority Mail to anywhere in the USA for under $7. You get tracking and insurance. |

Are the two versions of the electronic chart sold under the same name or model designator? Are they sold at the same price? Can you mention the model designator or perhaps stock code number or some other identifier that can be used to differentiate the products? When you undertake a return of the product you call the 2-GB card for the product you call the 16-GB card, do you have pay for an upgrade? |

Yes,"Navionics+ US & Canada" quote: Are they sold at the same price?
Yes, anywhere between $170 and $199 (retail) quote: Can you mention the model designator or perhaps stock code number or some other identifier that can be used to differentiate the products?
Same UPC 821245975119 16GB version adds this to the front of the package: Preloaded Nautical Charts ready to use The back of the package has different graphics and in small print below the chip windows is the MSD descriptor; "16GB card and USB reader enclosed" & "Card max download available 2GB" quote: When you undertake a return of the product you call the 2-GB card for the product you call the 16-GB card, do you have pay for an upgrade?
No, but I did have to pay for the new chip which would be reimbursed providing I return the 2GB version within 15 days AND " All returns will be inspected and tested upon receipt to determine appropriate credit" |

Thanks for that information. Anyone buying that product will very likely want to get the extra 14-GB of data available on the larger chip. |
