My 1989 17 Montauk had an electrical problem. I disconnected ALL electrical [devices or loads] other than the direct power to the engine.I now am using a battery-powered light-emitting diode UCO Lumora R3 XP-GR3 CREE LED 180 Lumen Flashlight and Collapsible Lantern with Dimmer:

Navisafe Navi light Tri-Color LED Navigation Light
Double Magnet Bracket Mount, Light Color: Tri-Color / White
Multifunctional Tri-Color LED Safety Light, Power: (3) AAA Batteries
Visibility: 2 NM USCG Approved, Dimensions: 2.68" OD x 1.38" H>

If your boat has electrical problems, you might want to remedy the electrical problems before you do a lot of night boating.

jim is correct: you have an electricl problem; you need to fix it. You have an open circut somewhere that is losing the power. JUst by disconnecting the lights may or may not fix the problem.
