Ok let's get started! Who wants to get together again? Columbus day weekend(saturday) October 12th. Sarasota area to cater to our southern friends? Brian is gonna try and gather some SeaCrafts to join us as well. Remember kids....if you have something other than a BW, it is cool. We had an Auguasport & a Seacraft last time so if your neighbor wants to go.....cool. This is a rendezvous(plural) and the more the merrier. This aint no "stuffy" Whaler gathering with grey poupon and capers.....we're talking Bigshot style(flip flops and beer). So lets get some brain fluid moving and come up with some ideas. Our April one was a big success(Don post the website again)and I want this one to be even better. Let's aim for at least 25 boats. Now who is bringing the band, the pigroast, the "entertainment", etc? Actually I should not kid like that, Pat will have a hooters built on the site:) There is plenty to do around here with about 6 waterfront restaurants and bars. We plan on having a tent or two and a grill. There is plenty of parking before noon and plenty of mooring if not. Water is blue)usually) and only 4-5' deep and totally protected. For directions, please let us know if you are in and your e-mail is in your proifile so I can send you a map. Who's coming and what would you like to do? Besides drink beer with Pat and I:) |

Sounds like some more fun under the Florida sun. I would enjoy getting together with all of you whaler fans again. Sarasota or south would be great for the next outing. Let me know when you work out all of the details. This is the web site for the pictures of the last outing. |

Don....you may want to drive it up this time. I can make it from there to venice inlet in about 40 minutes. How far are you from there? Pat....There are tons of waterfront hotels but I do not know of any off my head. |

13' is fine. I will send directions to my house where anyone can meet me and follow to local ramp. 90% is in Manatee river and ICW. Only about 2 miles in Tampa Bay will be driven, maybe less. Basically a walk in the park unless small craft warning. I used to do this trip in my 14' Carolina Skiff. Therefor a 9' squall could do it in more comfort:) |

Im gunna put in probably at Oneils. Head out to LongBoat from there. Try to get a room at the holiday sin @ the skyway w/dockage. Does that Holiday Inn have a ramp? |

Count us in! Swell, there is a Holiday Inn, 500 ft. from the ramp we launched at last time. A real nice place too. We are however, going to bring my 13' this time, that big hause we brought last time was too much. We'll be down sometime Sat. Noonish, and stay overnight this time too. Looking forward to it. Anybody going to fish? Some fresh grouper on the grill that Big's brining would be great! BTW, Big, can you bring the grill?:) If all would bring a food dish, and whatever meat, fish, or chicken they want, we could have a real feast. How about getting the wives together on this one. You "grill masters" will have enough to do. See ya Janis |

I will be able to bring a grill.....maybe a few grills. A 13 should be fine, especially in October. If it is not smooth you can trailer it closer to longboat or my neighborhood and launch. Swell will be fine in his rig. If I do not sell the 13 by then I may register it and take that....I love that boat:) |

You can do it! I tried recruiting a couple older Nausetts at beercan last Monday and had little or no success. Wish we had business cards. People look at you weird when you tell them stuff like that.....like I want something from them. Oh well....they lose! |

Ok kids! Looking to up the stakes a bit here. Going to try and get a sponsor or 2 and have them supply a keg and maybe some t-shirts or giveaways for the farthest distance, biggest POS, nicest boat, oldest, etc. I do not know if I can firm up one in time for shirts but I will keep Janis posted. I want this to grow every year so we have to beat 14 boats I think. We have 9 so far(not counting Eric...yet:). We also have 2 grills so far. |

Long Boat pass. Where Anna Maria and Long Boat connect via a bridge. There is an inlet there connecting the gulf to the ICW. There is also a ramp at the inlet which would be the closest:). Where are you coming from. |

E-mail me your phone # and how much T-s will cost for say 2 dozen....maybe 3. Maybe we will make up a T saying "Beer Can beach Rendezvous 2002". With some picture on it and maybe a Whaler logo on the sleeve or front breast. That way, if some do not have a Whaler, they will still be interested in the T shirts. People....are you interested in buying the ts if I can not get a sponsor to do so? I need to know asap and maybe even a headcount at this point. |

I will be attending- My Whaler will be ready by then, and I will be looking to show off it's new look. Phatwhaler- Do you go to UT? I think I ran into you a couple times when I lived on Harbour Island. Did you ever fix that flexy transom? I have not been on this board for a while- went into hibernation to complete the Whaler- It sure looks a lot different than it did in 1973 thats fo sho!! |

Saturdays I only work half days, so might be possible. Cheryl is on for a whole day though. It sounds like I'll have to get in just to represent the 16 footers, even though mine's not original anymore (a renovated, former POS). Bigshot deserves the support for all his efforts, too. East or West of the Long Boat Pass Bridge? Also, there's a Holiday Sin [sic] at the North end of Sarasota Bay (Bowles Creek on the chart)which is only 15-20 minutes away. They have their own marina! There's a little fish camp in Cortez about 2 miles North of the pass (Charlie's Cottages 941-794-5980 www.divefish.com)that is as neat as it can be. |

Being my 13' has not had 1 freaking call on it, I think I will be bringing that out for a whirl. I'm working on giving up on the Columbus Day Regatta in Miami and joining the BW otting. Sounds like getting a room is the way to go but what about camping. Is our meeting spot at a park or public beach? Is camping just a bad idea for some reason? Smirkless in Orlando |

I thought all tides at one of these events were high. And yes, the Regatta is a zoo... not that there is anything wrong with that. You just have to be willing to let other captains (I use the term loosly) run over your anchor rope again and again. I guess when you put 10,000 boats and dozens of cop boats in the same place, sh.. will happen but nothing that will take the smirk off your face, if you get my drift. |

We also have a nude beach/island next to Egmont Key. Passage Key is just off the South tip of Egmont Key at the mouth of Tampa Bay, and is a very popular spot for boaters in the summer. People are not allowed on the island itself (it is a bird sanctuary), so boaters anchor in the shallow water off of the east side. This is also a popular hangout for nude sunbathers, so if you are easily embarrased, you may want to find another spot. Like right! |

Smirk, We are staying at HI @ the skyway. $100.00 I figure the Holiday inn @ Sarasota is approx equidistant distance to Longboat. That definately makes it a definate plus to tow from Tampa. |

No it floats and there are trees. It is actually a penisula that you can get to by car. Actually you would have to park the car and walk down the beach about 1/2 mile. I am bringing a keg and a grill. Anyone may use the keg and grill but what you cook is up to you. Bring a pole and maybe catch your lunch. I would have loved to bring a couple dozen crabs but not possible....I ate them. |

I will have camera & video cam. I have recently been editing video composed with photos, text and music (Buffet, raggae or whatever) and putting the video clip on cd disk. No guarantee but possible. We will have wakeboard (device from hell if you ask me) and skiis. Tons of beer might work. Fishing gear. Music & more. Will try to get a bunch of shrimp. I've been rulled-out on camping, still working on hotel. Gunna be great! |

We live in the land of opportunity! Florida Sportsman is having a Halloween camping bash at beercan island off of FT Desoto 10/25,26,27. On the 27th, I have to do an art show girley/family thing in Mt. Dora. But it is on a lake......... What about a November 10 & 11th, a sunday and monday so my sweetie can make an appearance? "I'll have to behave" Maybe something in Draftsmanswifes area? Im gunna be down in Englewood, with my boat, with my Aunt for a week following Thanksgiving. Gunna hook up w/Don too. All of these possibilities and its not even December! Lets get it! |

BS. A well deserved thanks for organizing a great get togeather. Crew and I throughly enjoyed. Sorry couldn't hang around. Crew had to get back to St. Pete in relatively decent shape. Got to thinking about that 48 GPS reading and forgot was running with the tide at Johns Pass. DUH. Probably 45. Amazing how much better beer tastes when someone else is providing it. Thanks again. |

depends....got to see what wifey wants to do. I expanded the map and I see it is the inlet south of where we turned in to go to shell. So go to bunces pass and look for the flag on shell key North of the inlet but south of where we were.....got it! |

I downloaded them and put it on disc. I brought the disc to work on Tusday to e-mail to Don because home e-mail will only allow like 2 pics. The damn disc says it is not formatte but it worked before, I must have screwed something up. I will try and do it tonight. |

For those who attended, and can remember that you attended, I can send you a copy next week after the copies are made. Find out who was naughty and who was nice and who was just passed-out. I would love to have the names of the participating boats or nicknames for credits at the end. I have: Smirkless (and 2 smirks), Bigshot, Swelmonster, Draftmanswife, Eric & Bill C. I know there more... hello. Can anyone help or just just post a reply that you were there. It would be nice for rocord. Hi All, I lost one of my development machines that crashed while using McAfee Virus Scan. The machine hung up and forced me to reboot. Once I did that the operating system was damaged. A company out of Georgia was my lifesaver. They have recovery software that allows the data files on your pc to be restored but not the operating environment. To add to the pain my router failed and I have since replace it and now I’m back up and running. I will post the pictures very soon. Sorry about the delay! I have serious doubts about McAfee. I had no viruses on any of my computers. I guess it was my turn to win the rebuild lottery. Don |

When you have a 1/2 barrel in the back of your boat....they come around. Like sharks they are. Lifeless eyes.....black, like a doll's eyes. When they take a sip of beer their eyes roll back in their heads and show their whites. Did'nt see the first one till about noon. then they started to come around. Sure you would kick and scream and huddle together to make them go away, but they would return. Did'nt lose the first guy until about 2. Bill C was his name, nice guy from St Pete. I thought he was sleeping so I patted him on the back. He bobbed up and down till he upended.....bitten in half below the waist. As the day wore on you would hear the screaming from the other men. They would scream and yell and then the water would turn red. This went on throughout the day. Not sure how many sharks there were....hundreds, thousands maybe. They were averaging 6-7 men an hour. By the end of the day, we were down to 317 men. 1030 went into the water chiefy, rest were taken by sharks. Man I have seen Jaws TOOOOOO many times. |

When are we getting together again kids? Whoever wants to....no big event though, maybe St Pete(shell key) or Eggmont? Just meet on a sat or sunday and shoot the bull. I go out every weekend so just let me know. With Turkey day coming up, we all have some time to go boating. Swell, Bill, Eric, Don, etc. Anyone else in the Clearwater to Venice area? |

it's just not fair :( You go out every weekend, my boat is away for the winter and I on my weekends I ride in a pickup from house to house doing fall clean ups. We are planning a trip to FL in feduary so maby I will get a little boating in this winter. 11 |

Hey Bigshot, sorry I missed all the fun, long story short, while playing on the net I found my dad whom I never met, he lives 30 miles from me! Also 4 sisters, one in Largo, one in the keys and the others out of state, so I havent even started the boat in 2 months. Hope to catch a BS [arty soon, see ya! Shawn |

Big, The older we get, the older the sharks get. Turkey Day is the 28th? I should be out at beercan that weekend, probably Sunday. Parents never been to Shell, maybe time for a road trip on that saturday. I will keep you posted. |

The one you were at in the photos.....unless that was not really you. If it is choppy I can cut across the flats to Longboat pass so ride is smooth. If it is calm I will shoot over to Shell key, not sure where though. Either North side of Bunce's pass or over at the next inlet North. |

Sure did! Man I thought I was in NJ again. Damn near turned the heat on until I realized it was 63 degrees. I did pull the 17 though and my cleaning chore is gonna be a good day if not 2. You guys think it was messy at the rendezvous, you should see it 5 weeks later....DOOF! |
