Gang, it's time to start planning another one. Let's figure out the where and when. One option that we tossed out at our first gathering is a weekend on the Suwannee River. I know it's a drive for some, but so is Tampa. It's also close enough to draw some Georgians. Plus no small craft warnings. It could make for a wild weekend.

I just posted one for 3/29 in St Pete. When are you thinking Frank? How far north is that from crystal River? I take my boat there every summer so going North a bit is no biggie.

Frank,
I took the family up to Chiefland this past weekend to go camping and boating on the Suwannee. We got rained out on Sunday and returned early. We were planning a return trip within the next couple of months. I spoke with Swellmonster about a trip up in your area and I am glad to see you getting one together. Post the dates so we can make plans. The trip from Englewood was just over 3-1/2 hours.

Protected waters in March is a good idea. The Suwannee River is good. The St. Johns is also fun and centrally located. Draftsman's Wife would like that. My old blue smirkless should be restored by then :-)
.. we can bust a bottle of beer over her bow.

Smirk :-)

Nick, the Suwannee is 1 to 1-1/2 hrs from Crystal River depending on where. Our neck of the woods is 1 1/4. We've got 10 acres nearby for camping or maybe something on the river. I'm thinking April 12 or 26 after Easter. St. Johns is OK but the Suwannee has loads of springs to swim in too. Another plus is the lack of no wake zones.

I will be leaving for costa rica on the 28th so I know I can't make that. That is also why I am doing the 29th at Shell. If I can change it to the 5th of April, can you go?

Just signed up to enter my newly renovated 17', 1968 Sakonnet in the Mount Dora Antique Boat Festival, March, 27-30. The organizers also have a St. Johns river cruise form Jaksonville to Sanford four days before the Fest and back up the four days after. The show usually has over 150 boats. Don't think I can have old blue up to show quality by then but wish me luck anyway. Sorry I can't make Shell Key. Smirk :-)

Just an update on river conditions. I went out on the river today and it is 5 feet higher than normal and still rising. Given that the rain is getting to be a daily event here in N FL, it's hard to say if we can do it when we want. Today, I spent the afternoon dodging logs, trees, firewood, fence parts, and trash floating in the river.

Sounds wonderful, should we get our tetanus shots?

I have requested more info on other sites to add to our outing. Look forward to it!
The river should be smooth enough for Bigshot, or atleast untill a Bayliner drives by.....;)
Hope this comes through...

Manatee is nice, but they have problems with liqour and noise. Lot's of RV's and retirees. A good plce to stop during the day for a swim. This is the area I had in mind though.

Manatees don't like liquor and noise or they do? If manatees like to get polluted, maybe we should bring some to the rendezvous. Being Jimmy Buffet and all, maybe they would like a Margheritta or a cheese burger in paradise. If manatees DON'T like liquor and noise then we'll jusr BBQ the damn things:)
