Hello,

I am planning a day trip to Block Island from Stonington, CT the weekend after this. I have a 1985 Outrage 18.

I am planning on going to New Harbor, where is the best place to leave the boat for the day? I see there are about 100 town moorings for $30/night - do these come with launch service?

Is there any anchorage within swimming distance of shore?

Thanks,
Todd Lynch

I used to anchor in front of Champlin's beach and used their shower and facilities for a fee. I put a Danforth off the bow and a small mushroom off the stern and could walk to the shore.

Todd -

If you haven't done it already, do a web search on Block Island - lots of info. The BI homepage has webcams with harbor pics.

Many places to anchor & swim to shore on the south side of Great Salt Pond (New Harbor). Or, borrow a small inflatable boat. Good locations are between Champlains & the Block Island Marina, or BI Marina and the Steamboat Wharf, or west of Champlains.

Rent bikes, take a taxi tour from an elderly local (more info than younger drivers), eat good food. Tour the cemetery and look at some of the detailed headstones (lots of history).

Have a great trip!

P.S. I've visited Block about 60 times by boat, and loved it every time.
