Lets try to really put something together for next summer? Volunteers (the same people who tried to put the separate ones together)? Participants?

My parents are putting their house up for sale on LBI this spring. I am going to HAVE to spend some vacation time up there being it will be my last chance and I did grow up there. I would definately be into something on or near Barnegat Bay. I don't have ANY boat in NJ but my best friend has a '95? outrage 17' I can poach for a day.

Here's what I meant to say in the first post: NY, NJ, and CT rendezvous seem to be working against each other and nothing ever comes off. It's time for them all to get together and pool their resources and make one mega-event. How about it?

I'm on the Hudson near West Point NY and can go north up the river or down the river to either Raritan Bay, NJ or west around Manhattan through the East River to the Long Island Sound. I know there's another CW member with a Whaler in Piermont, NY (not sure about others on the Hudson) so perhaps rather than a few boats from each state, joining forces might indeed be a great idea.

Another thought might be to enter a bunch of Whalers in a fishing contest, for those who like to fish. I know of one Striper contest in mid-April on the Hudson, a two day affair near the Tappan Zee bridge. That might be a bit cold though, although I never do well at these events but it would still be a win for me if the winning angler was in a Whaler. Just an idea.

Ron,
I agree, lets start locally. The proposed "mega events" seem to center around the cruising grounds of the organizer. Nothing wrong with that, somebody has to do all the work. Its not easy to find a suitable place to have a boat get-together where you have overnight use of beachfront for cookouts and camping. So for any rendezvous to reach "critical mass" many boats have to trailer or cruise.
The question is where can you do this in the Metropolitan NYC - Lower Hudson area? There isn't much open-to-the-public beachfront campground real estate around that I'm aware of. I have been in overnight raftups at Captain's Island, Oyster Bay, Lloyd's Neck, Stamford Breakwater, etc. but none involved use of the beach.
If a rendezvous gets off the ground within 100 miles of Manhattan, I'll make a serious effort to go.
For me a cruise on the Hudson River holds a great attraction and makes great sense. Its one of the reasons that I got a bigger Whaler. It would be great to find another boat or two and cruise as a group. I wouldn't be opposed to an occasional waterfront motel or marina restaurant. I don't know what will be the final plan, but I promised myself at least to make it to the Troy Locks and a bit above.
I'd be happy to hear from anybody with a similar inclination.
Karl

p.s. What are the dates of the Tappan Zee fishing event?

Hi Karl,

Hope your staying warm, more snow on the way starting tomorrow morning.

The Striper Derby is April 17th and 18th at the Striped Bass Restaurant in Tarrytown.

Details can be found on the Boating on the Hudson Web Site.

I'm game for just about anything, although I'm partial to the idea of a marina/motel arrangement so that my wife and children have the option of more comfortable accomodations and the option of travelling by land and meeting up with me. I have no problems sleeping on my little outrage but my wife and young boys are still day sailors.

A one day rendezvous in our area is also possible if we want to pick a beach and just meet there fro a barbeque. Besides you and I, I know there are a few Whalers in the Haverstraw Marina and the Charles Point Marina in Peekskill but I do not know if they are CW members. Another member who posts here has in his profile that he is from Cornwall, NY, so that might be another boat.

Depending on weather and ice I hope to be back in the water in late March or early April.

One thing that never ceases to amaze me is that when Whalers meet on the water we always wave to each other, much like antique autos on our highways. You don't see that with many other brands. With Whalers there always seems to be mutual admiration and respect. That's why my future boat will be Whaler too.

I would try to attend from NE Pa. Or, you could all come up here to Lake Wallenpaupack (18428). There are campgrounds right on the lake.
