Here are a few pics from our family trip today. The location is a beach behind my office, which is located on the former, famous Pontchartain Beach. In the 50's and 60's, this was a full amusement park, Ferris wheel, beaches, bands and all that jazz. Today, only a small structure exists where folks would line up for a roller coaster ride.

The weather was warm, slight breeze. The water was nice and it was really a lovely day.

I have an uncle, must be close to 70. Retired USAF Colonel, worked in NORAD, lives in Colorado Springs today.

In the 60's, he and his wife went to Pontchartrain Beach. Drove I think 4 hours there from New Iberia.

They partied and drove home that evening. Gets home, realizes his wallet is missing. Military ID, everything inside.

They drive BACK there the same night, 4 hours, and retrieved the wallet from the lost and found!

Talk about the day when things were different.

Try this to hear the jingle and radio commercial from 1962 http://http://www.walkerpub.com/PonchartrainBeach_1962.ram

In the late 60's I remember hauling our boat across the Causeway and then going up the Tchefuncta River.

That was a neat commercial. French Poodles, high diving Tigers.....great piece of nostalgia. Thanks!
