We like Biloxi area, too. And we'd prefer nothing sooner than April so our "new" girl will be ready. We're awaiting the Evinrude wiring harness from Twin Cities Marine, need to buy new batteries and cables and switch, need to buy a bunch of wires and connectors and stuff to hook up everything behind the dash, need to get a new fuel filter and new hose and hook that stuff up, need to finish the woodwork (sanding louvered doors is tedious!) and we have to put some seats in the boat! But, hey, she's getting close. Mills canvas, radar/antenna arch and the full array of electronics will have to follow our rendezvous. The restoration of the cabin (need to replace liner) may wait until next winter. Maybe we'll do well at the casinos should the Mississippi coast be our destination???? Nobody bet your boats. |

Biloxi Potential: 1) A river run and beach somewhere up river, a number of places. 2) Deer Island West tip maybe. Island is very close to mainland. 3) Blow Fly Inn, eat on back bay Gulfport. 4) Horn Island, further out 8 to 10 miles. |

Everything sounds like a good time to me, Jim. Do you know of any waterfront condos or the like with docks/slips? We'd like to leave our boat in the drink from beginning to end. I even thought about going over there by boat, but I think the cost of gasoline may have ruled that out. |

Mike, Here is what I know: Casinos: The Palace Casino and the Beau Rivage Casino have slips. The Beau is really nice, top shelf. The Palace is great too. Both have hotels and buffets etc. There is also the Isle of Capri and Casino Magic, I don't know about slips at those two but they overlook Deer Island. Jeff mentioned someone he knows will have some slips at the Beau. Condos: http://www.biloxibaychamber.net/condo.html I think the one on Popps Ferry has slips. Looks good from the water. Jim |

Jim, even if they don't have slips in OS the ramp is good and there is more trailer parking than some of the Biloxi ramps. Also will there be a bikini contest Mike Brantly and I could enter. I got third place one year at Ship Island just by showing up and threatening to enter. |

None of the casinos on "Casino Row" have their own marinas, but all (the Grand, Isle of Capri and Magic) are walking distance from Point Cadet Marina. Point Cadet has very reasonable transient rates and good security. Also, I believe that trailer parking is allowed at the marina. The phone number for the Harbormaster's office is 228/436-9312. It's usually a good idea to call ahead and reserve a slip. |

Good info about Small Craft Harbor and Point Cadet marinas. I think we're going to run over to Biloxi Saturday, sans boat, to generally goof off but also to check out some of these facilities firsthand. Cheryl is itching to "get out of town" for even a few hours. Also, I just bought myself a chart of the area and the fourth edition of Claiborne S. Young's "Cruising Guide to the Northern Gulf Coast." Lots of good info to be gleaned from both. |

We ended up reserving a wet slip at the Biloxi Small Craft Harbor for the nights of June 17 and June 18, and we booked a hotel room across the street at the Beach Manor Inn. Looks like that marina has some limited space for trailer parking (only while attached to your car/truck, unfortunately, so you can't go off in your tow vehicle and leave your trailer), so our plan is to leave our boat in the water for the weekend and walk across to the hotel. There is a shuttle from our hotel to the various casinos, etc. The Point Cadet Marina doesn't have much parking, and I didn't see a launch ramp, although there is supposed to be one nearby. There is a nice launch ramp right on the premises at the Biloxi SCH, however. Adjacent to the Biloxi SCH is a restaurant called McElroys that we enjoyed, and there appears to be great dining all over the waterfront. At both marinas, a 25-foot slip (their smallest) rents for $25 plus tax a night. Our motel room at the Beach Manor Inn for a single queen was $75 plus tax a night, but it was the only single queen room that was non-smoking. The lady behind the desk said a king would run $115 to $125, and a double queen would run closer to $150. For that kind of money, I'd rather look at the nearby Beau Rivage casino and hotel. We stayed there a few years ago, and it is very nice. As mentioned, the Beau has its own marina, too. But we decided to go cheap since we'll be spending very little time in the hotel room. The Beach Manor is an older-style motel, but it was apparently rebuilt aver Hurricane Camille. The rooms are clean and have mini-fridges. No coffee makers, though! There is a small pool. It doesn't look like the parking lot would be good for trailer rigs, however -- very little turn-around room. Who knows? We may even stay longer than a couple of nights, depending on how much we find to do in the area and what the weather is like for boating. |

Mike ,sounds like your ready. We are bringing the trawler and at least the revenge, maybe one of the others too. We will most likely be at Point Cadet. If the weater is nice we may tow the whalers behind the big boat. It takes us about 4 hrs to get to Biloxi so we will move boats Thursday night or Friday morning. A sad note the other Mike and Cheryl who joined us at Orange Beach, had there 34 mainship in the boatyard this week. Saturday Cheryl fell from the boat (about 10ft.to the ground) |

2Many, It hurts me just reading about the fall -- ouch! I hope she is better soon. This date looks good. My wife and son will be visiting relatives out of state for the entire month of June, so I am good to go. I still need to get off my derriere and change my #@!# grease seals. I keep pumping them before every run and that is getting old. Can someone summarize this trip again, i.e., exactly where will this run take place? I read down the posts, but got lost somewhere around albuquerque. AYYEEEEE, wait for me! |
