Well here it is folks! Let's get started planning the after summer Lanier Rendezvous. At our last gathering we had discussed, and most had agreed on September 8th (the Saturday after Labor day weekend) as an agreeable date for another get together! Some have suggested that we find a spot to Rendezvous and grill out. What do y'all think? Who's in?-k |

I'm in! Sept. 8th sounds good to me. I'm heading down to St. George again Sept. 23rd so I won't have to leave early this year. Kevin-Thanks for all those Striper pictures, I was checking every Friday. Maybe we can find a good spot to grill out this year, but I'm up for anything. GFOX |

Hey y'all. The route we run is pretty hard to beat, Dockside is great. I'm in. Checking alternatives--called the Corps yesterday and Lanier Park was already reserved on the 8th. The only other park with a platform is Van Pugh North and it was only available on Sunday the 9th. Is anyone familiar with VP North? I may run by there and check it out the slide show on the web doesn't show the platform. Didn't ask about other weekends. Another good reason for the 8th is that UGA plays SC/Spurrier in Athens at 5:45pm so that may keep some folks off the lake but it's late enough for any CWers to get home for TV. |

Lot's of people bring their grills out to the many beaches on the islands near Holiday and Lanier islands. That is always an option. Set up a tent, some grills, horseshoe pits... RM |

I bet discussion will ramp up a little closer to Labor Day. I like the grilling out idea too. Also wondering if anyone wants to do a "bridge run" by putting in up North and running under the bridges and back. Goes like Clarks Bridge, 129, Thompson Bridge, Hwy 53. Maybe beach at a park near downtown Gainesville and grill out? |

I've got two small grills and hankerin for a "family" type thing. The north end run sounds good to me also,am partial since that's where I put in. Anybody got a large folding table that they could bring? Grills goin' kids swimmin, cold drink in hand, lots of good company, man it don't get no betta than dat!! Any of the islands should work I'd think. Joe you're familaiar with most of them which would you reccomend? Jerry |

There are also a lot of other parks we could try to get a pavilion. North-end and on the water-- Gainesville City has Holly Park and Longwood Park, Hall County has Laurel Park, Clarks Bridge Park and River Forks Park. Versus finding an island, these may be easier to grill out, recreate and use the restroom, harder to have a beer. Maybe harder to beach too, would need to check out ahead of time. Fun to consider I guess. hallcounty.org/parks/ |

Notice the BW Divemaster in the Bridge inspection story. Great boats. I used one last month when I was in NJ for the week. My buddy has a 22 Divemaster and left the keys for me when he loaned me his house on the water to stay at. Was out in his whaler every day. I am good with where ever you want to have the gathering. My Outrage can make it from the southend to where ever you want to beach at. |

SDave - You thinking about upgrading? We'll take out the the Montauk at the Rendezvous in Sept. so you can check out the ride. Kevin's Minitauk is great example of a 15. I'm down with some grilling up north. There's some great beaches just south of Browns Bridge. Everybody take care and I'll see ya in Sept. Garey |

That's a big 10-4 on needing a ride. I just watched my first boat leave the driveway a few minutes ago. I still have the Boston Whaler owner's certificate framed so that'll do until my next one. That and now I have the funds to fix the driveway. If there are good beaches near Browns Bridge then a bridge run may really work. If it's any incentive, Clarks Bridge Park is a free ramp. But as they say, I ain't got a horse in this race so I will of course go along with whatever!! |

Dave, you're welcome to ride with me/us if you like. The beer thing isn't a factor for to me so any of the parks/rec areas on the north end has my vote as does one of the islands if that's what everyone wants to do. Has, or is, anyone going to contact Whaler for possible rendevous goodies, We use the blankies everyday for naps! |

Guys, If we want to do the cookout thing, there is a cove not far from Holiday that is adjacent to a boat ramp and has lots of beach. Now that the lake is down, you can also walk to the beach part in the cove from the parking lot of the boat ramp. I witnessed someone in a houseboat beached and having a party/cookout with big grills, tents, tables, etc. Perfect place. http://lanier.sam.usace.army.mil/ParkRecreationMap.htm RM |

Burton Mill sounds okay with me if its good for every one else. We'll run down from the north end but thats not a big deal, takes maybe 30-45 minutes. Let me know what to bring, if you need small grills, I got em, salad or munchies, got em, want us to chip in on meat, can do that too. Let me know. Speaking of which, is everyone gonna bring their own groceries or are we gonna make it a group thing and share the expenses? What about cold drinks, again one big cooler or individual supplied. What time/where to meet. If this doesn't come together the Dockside was hard to beat.....One last thought, If someone will make up a grocery list I'll shop and bring everything to where ever we go. |

I'm signed up to race my sailboat in the SSC Special Olympics Fundraiser that weekend. If we finish early Saturday, I may head down that way, as long as you don't mind a 29' blowboat moving in on the scene. Is there a VHF channel you guys monitor? |

I was out on the lake yesterday and my Yammie headed south. I hope it's not terminal. The engine would start and go in gear but wouldn't rev over about 2500 RPMs. I hope it's just the carbs or something I can take care of. I still would love to make the Rendezvous, but may need to bum a ride. I'm going to work on the Whaler next weekend, so we'll see. Garey |

Looks like our numbers are dwindling! I propose we get together for a run up lake and then lunch at Holiday as usual- it's looking like 4 or 5 boats max. Or perhaps we can stiper fish early and then do lunch. Just some ideas to kick around, seems like a cookout might be a bunch of work for just the few of us. Any other ideas?-k |

Yeah Kevin I agree, we should try use the smaller group size as an opportunity. That opens up fishing, going to other areas or really anything. Has anyone ever tried Big Creek Tavern instead of Dockside? Or maybe just setting a meeting place and figuring it out when we get there? Also wanted to add that I talked to George on the phone a couple weeks ago and he is in but hasnt posted yet. |

I've been watching the planning and wanting to join you guys but it is just not gonna happen for the Alabama crowd. We had planned early on to bring 2 boats but with some other things that have come up we are just going to have to bow out. Good luck and we'll try and make it early next year! B |

reclarke- Too bad you guys can't make it! Maybe the spring rendezvous will have a better turnout! It looks like we need to make some decisions about our Rendezvous! Joe, Jerry and I talked about it over lunch at Dockside, and unless anyone objects, why don't we get together for some striper fishing in the a.m., followed by lunch at Dockside? If you are boatless (Dave, maybe Garey) one of you guys can ride/fish with me. The other option would be a run up/across the lake, maybe we could do that after lunch? What do y'all think? -k |

Yeah, even though I am an admitted North end proponent, the water levels are stump city. For some reason in my head I think the Whaler procession going under all bridges would be neat, it's for another time. Seeing the tricks of Striper fishing would be really really cool. So that's my vote, even if it means an early start. Hey Bama crew-- too bad you couldn't make it but glad you are checking in. Lake Burton was really nice this year hope you got a chance. I talked to George a while back so probably riding with him at first and then boarding a couple other boats to see what they are like. |

Let's go ahead and plan on meeting at the Dam Store around 6am on Saturday for those that would like to try some early striper fishing. We'll have to see who shows up to figure out who fishes/rides with whom. Whoever doesn't want to fish (or get up that early) can catch up with us later via cellphone, I will send the phone list from last time in a couple of days. Depending on how well the fishing goes, we can shoot for lunch at Holiday Marina around noon. If the fishing is terrible we can always run up the lake a bit! Any objections? How about a check in if you plan to attend, and what part you would like to attend-k |

Hey Guys - I need to see if the Yammie feels like running. I'm planning to see if some carb cleaner will work. I didn't have a chance to work on it last weekend because of family stuff. If it's running good I'll meet up via cell phone or meet everyone at Dockside Grill. I'm almost sure it's the carbs or a fuel delivery problem. I'm pretty bummed but I guess thats part of owning a boat. If I show I'll be on the Montauk. Garey |

The Sept 07 Rendezvous dwindled down to a "few hearty souls", and turned in to the "CW Striper Rendezvous". Unfortunately, the only striper I saw landed was on the Nauti-tauk! We met at the Dam Store (local bait and tackle) at 6 am, with the Minitauk conspicuously late. The Minitauk was left in the dirt by the two other boats that participated in this mini-rendezvous. I met up with Joe Morgan, who had invited GCarlil (George) and Super_dave (Dave) as both were boatless due to recent technical problems and a boat sale, respectively. As soon as I had my lines in the water, the sun began to rise and provided some great shots (which I plan to post in the GAM as well). Joe's Outrage looking great at sunrise: Jerry swabs the deck in an early morning clean up on the Nauti-tauk: Both vessels complete the picture: Okay, just one more shot of Joe's Outrage, a little later:
When Jerry gets a hook up: Dave, Joe, and George shout words of encouragement (can't be published in this forum): As Jerry plays the fish, weighs and gently releases him (11 pounds), a birds nest of line in the Nautitauk awaits him. Jerry had to handline the beast for the last few yards of line: Check out this shot, full zoom, and the props are standing still: and goodbye: We finished up the morning with lunch at the Dockside Grill, I kept whining and complaining about being hot, tired, hungry, and bored. Joe said "it's just that you're not catching (fish)..." Exactly Joe, exactly. Had a great time guys! Let me know if you want me to send you pics- please post yours! -k |

Never got a pic of Georges first, but here is his second and third he ever caught. Joe- I checked my cellphone messages today on my lunch break, and I got the two from you telling me to come meet y'all! The second message was great because you must have had a hook up or a bite, and you didn't hang the phone up! It was like I was in the boat with y'all! Sounds like a lot of fun! Sorry I missed it, but the nap was calling me. The ramp wasn't bad, I was second in line after Jerry, and it took 20 minutes tops to haul out, I think this was the beginning of the afternoon backup-there were 3 boats in line after I left. George- Congrats on your first striper! Looks like some good ones! Let me know if you want to go out in the Minitauk on a Friday-much more peaceful than Saturdays!-k |
