I have the month of July off next summer and plan to run the old Outrage up the coast to my family"s summer home.I intend to pass thru the Cape Cod canal the first day as I have done Block Island, R.I. in three hours.Last summer I attempted to locate overnight lodging with dockage without any luck any thoughts, suggestions? Hopes are to avoid sleeping on the boat.My second night will be in Portsmouth New Hampshire where my sister has a house on the Great Bay.The trip will be solo and one way as I will meet up with my children in Waldoboro and return by trailer.

About an hour or two past Block Island would be Cutty Hunk, the first island of the Elizabethan Island chain that you pass on the way to the CC Canal. The Cutty Hunk Fishing Club has a dock and has rooms with breakfast that are very decent. If you google it, you should find contact name/number. If you wanted to be somewhere on the other side of the canal, Plymouth would be the first stop. There is a large Brewers yard there which you could put the boat at then stay at any number of B&B's in Plymouth. Beyond that you're very close to Boston and perhaps a bit much for the first day.

You should have a great trip - post your schedule when you know it so as you pass by the CT river I can come out and heckle you.

Gloucester MA would also make a decent overnight.Moorings from the city. There are always rooms available at The Crow's Nest!!!

Keep us informed as to your dates. I could be tempted to run as companion boat. I have done multi day trips in the past.

I'm up for a run to Portland...and back! It's 70 miles or so from the Merrimack. I'll be watching this thread.

jamesmylesmcp,

If you have a Garmin GPS(not sure of other mfgs) there is a wealth of information stored in the unit including marinas w/gps numbers, phone numbers, etc.

I've made the trip from MV through the CC canal past Provincetown and back to MV a number of times as day trips. There is a fuel dock in the Sandwich Basin at the east end of the canal.

Harbor Masters can be a great resource and I keep many Harbor Master phone numbers in my cell phone.
