Swimmer I am heading down from Newport early Saturday am and I think Inanabus, from Jamestown, will be headed down with his boat as well. At this time we are thinking about the Liberty State park in NJ, if you type it in Google it comes up and here is an unrelated YouTube video that shows the ramp and how close it is to the stature of liberty:

I'm in. Launching the 170 Montauk from Veteran's Memorial Park in S. Norwalk. See you guys at Greens Ledge 0730.

I'll be traveling solo till we hit the city where I plan to pick up two friends at 23rd St. for the two hour tour.

I picked up another fuel can so no need to stop before the statue.

Channel 19, right?

Plan on heading down early Saturday trailering my 170 Montauk with Contender25 in the lead. May or may not have one other person with me, possibly another CW member.

Contender25, I am sure you using GPS as well for the boat portion of the trip, but I purchased a Maptech waterproof chart today of "NY Harbor & Approaches", Chart #8, Edition 4, which appears to cover the entire Island.

This is going to be one hell of an event I think!

Thanks to everyone who attended and we missed those whom did not, but I thank you for the e-mails.The day started off for me in pee soup, fog,I managed to make the Norwalk Islands on time and met up with the first boats,at the Throggs Neck Bridge we became 8,onto the Statue the weather turned spectacular as the skyline emerged from the mist. The Statue was alive with Whalers as the Coast Guard Chopper provided multiple low level Fly-Bys,the 345 Conquest with Capt. Mike from MarineMax at the helm idled waiting to lead us up the Hudson. At 10:45 AM 24 Whalers headed North up river,a sight like I've never seen. Thanks to everyone for making this a memorable day. Jim

Thanks Jim, although we had engine problems and couldn't keep up with the group we had a great time. We did prove that if you have twins and one isn't working at the dock, YOU STILL GO! We found a brand new defective spark plug while eating lunch, made good time after that by ourselfs. We had a lot of fun, and it was nice and cool on the water....Jack

Some boats logged quite impressive miles on this event, over 125-statute-miles. Did everyone have fuel endurance for this distance? Or was there a fuel stop anywhere?
wmeier posted 06-10-2008 12:58 AM ET (US)     Profile for wmeier  Send Email to wmeier
Jimh..I don't recall the exact millage however it should be close to DLee's millage...I think my gps said 110 miles. I used 23 gallons of gas at $4.69 a gallon with no refueling for the day. 2008 Outrage 190 with 60 gallon tank. Need to say that we were pushing the speed at some points...so fuel economy was sacrificed. I now have a whopping 49hrs on the engine since taking delivery in April...lOl. We were also up the next day at 0500hrs and out chasing the fish in Norwalk Islands. My 11 year old is sure enjoying the boat. It will be a definate high light of his summer.

Jim,I know of 1 boat that traveled from L.I.Sound that refueled in N.Y.Harbor,the rest never stopped,I have two 19 gallon saddle tanks, carried three five gallon jugs in reserve and arrived at my docks having never touched the jugs,a guess be I burned about 30 gallons all day.

Bella logged 70 miles round trip and burned 55 gals.
Sickening! But I'll be there next time.

With Honda 150 on Nantucket launched at GW Bridge. Went out to Verrizano Bridge, back to Statue, over to Battery, back to Statue, up Hudson and all around Manhattan to GW launch.
16.5 gallons used. At $4.05 in Vermont to fill thats $66.82 for all day fun. Not bad and sure beats skiing for a day.

I had a blast and did 135 S miles for the trip on about 41 gallons. The boat is a 72 ribbed outrage with a ~1998 mercury 150. There were two other men on the boat so we were loaded pretty good. I did stop to refuel just north of liberty at the liberty landing marina ($4.64 / gal). I had to wait for access and it took longer than I wished. When I got back on the hudson the flotilla had left and was far north of me. I put the hammers down and found Jim putting his canvas up under the GW bridge. I past him and didn't meet up with the rest of the gang until the entrance of the Harlem River. It was a great ride down the Harlem river with the tide...
I can't wait for next year.
I will post some pics over the weekend
Regards, Kurt
