Sounds great Henry. Timing this time of year will be all important. The weekends are filling up. Vacations are set. Possible dates?

I am open to suggestions...on dates, launching, BBQ site (if not Das House)Lots of tie up space at Das House, also St, Clements Island, and beaching your boat at "Shipping Point in the sand for a beach party In St Clements Bay...all the sites are within 20 minutes ride of Das House. Launching at Das House is simple and easy, but you can drop yours in anywhere on the Potomac...its all about what flavor you like:)see a map of the Potomac @ St Clements Island...

Did my patriotic Duty today and met Marlin and together in "Golden Daze" went up the Potomac, stopped at Mt. Vernon, passed the monuments and Arlington National Cemetary on the way to Georgetown Quite a trip, stopping a couple of times for the two Pooches to retrive and take a swim or three:)Mayeb later in the week to VA. and pass zGeorge Washinton's Birthplace and Robert E Lee's ancesteral home:)All that being a short ride from Das House, not to mention Monroe's home near Colonial Beach, also a short ride away:)Yes, the Potomac River were so much history of this country was written(booth tryed to cross the Potomac in a row boat at night after shooting Linclon!)He really messed up:)

Henry,
We would consider coming down from Pa, 3 hours by car from our area. Sounds like a lot to see. We'll watch the thread and let you know when you set a date.

Speaking of the Potomac. Are any whalers gathering in the river for the fireworks on Saturday? If not what is the traffic like coming in and out of Columbia Island Marina. How busy is the launch there?

Okay..how does the 25th of July sounds to everyone.? or the following week the 30th?

If not then, then make a suggestion and alternate date....

Milo...Trying to gauge interest in a Potomac River Rend. for July or Aug....for the LOWER POTOMAC south of Cobb Island, St, Clements Island, Nomini Bay area.
There is a really big difference from the area your talking about, and for the 4th of July compared to the Lower Potomac later in the month..

The area your talking about is mostly "No WAKE" from the bridge on to Georgetown me thinks....Thats not the kind of boating I'm talking about, although Marlin and I were at that lauch area and National Airport yesterday and its still their and very active.

Actually, Pohick for launching like Marlin does would work for the upper Potomac, then 20 miles to DC, not so sure for the lower as it's a bit far for a St. Clements Island Rend.

The weekend of the 7/25 is possible, the next weekend, we are taking the Montauk and heading to Topsail for a week.
Henry, did not mean to highjack post and discuss upper Potomac July 4th fire works in Dc. I was just curious about the water view and traffic. By no means would that be preferable over your area.

Yiddil posted 07-03-2009 10:02 PM ET (US)     Profile for Yiddil  Send Email to Yiddil
Milo, don't worry bout it, no offense taken at all my friend. Actually, it probabaly helped people undertsnad what I was interested in doing and not doing for this Rend.

It's real crazy for the 4th over their Milo...I woudl recommend you stay clear, 1000 boats and a lot of drunk people make for a real iffy boat outing...in close quarters...Yikes!!!

OKay, got your vote for the 25th...I'm leaning towards that as well...dont want to wait long..but then again, I'm out their a lot one way or another...

We can do the 25th as well. What day would you consider if weather is bad? We are heading up to Maine on 7/30 thru 8/10, any weekend from 8/15 on is good as a rain date for us.
Yiddil posted 07-10-2009 11:35 PM ET (US)     Profile for Yiddil  Send Email to Yiddil
Blackdog, Lets make the rain date for you any day from the aug 115th on:) hehe To bad it wasn't this week. Weather has been fantastic for two weeks now:)

RE-rigged 5 heavy duty rods and reels to do some or should I say a lot of trolling:)They worked pretty good the last few days:)))

But I said to heack with it today and just threw out a pillow and went swimming instead:)))) And Blackdog knows how I love a good jump in the potomac:)

Okay Date is set...25 JUlY, rain or shine....

SO far Justin is coming with his 27 aft, Kamie with her sweet 18 ( those damned ETECS are so gorgeous on these guys boats), Marlin, can come with "Golden Daze" or without, ED may come with or without SOrtie if he can find the time, so we should have enough boats with or with out the two I mentioned...

Plan is to go do some fishing around St. Clements Island, amyeb even go ashore and check out the new LightHouse and StatePark, then possibly a trip into St. Clements Bay to "Shipping Point" for some beach swimming and boat beaching and relaxing and foods...BYOB, and food and where all set:)

Anyone who wants to join us frome this point and wants to launch at my place is welcomed to do so, or come down by water like Justin is doing...just email me so I know how to assist you and or meet you.

I was down last week and it was like "heaven", heading back down shortly...Henry AKA THE YIDDIL

OKay people, this is the week we do the Potomac up in a big way....If you don't have my private info, email me for anything you might need...Remember, this is a BYOB,F,and anything else you want or need.

please don't forget the suns screen....8 hrs on the Potomac can be brutal on yer bod even in grey skies:)

I expect a run up to St. Clements Island is in order to do some fishing in and around the Island, a possible trip to the cliffs to hunt sharks teeth and fosils, and a run down to "Shipping Point" for some beach fun and kick back...There is always the infamous "Henry's Hidaway" in St Clements Bay if you want a quiet picknick on the water complete with fishing...have not been their in a while...plenty of fishing and swimming waters...

If we get a shower we have rafted up at a number of locations and if we get something real bad we have lots of opportunity for cover in any number of creeks and or marina's...

Looking forward to seeing all of you this coming week....If your staying over nite, let me know so I can prepare for "Yiddils Special Omletts" in the morning:))

Henry,
Sorry I won't be able to come down, fighting an intermittant electical problem on the Outrage. I appreciate the offer, and we'll see around at another Rendezvous!

I can't make it either Henry. I have to go down and move my daughter out of her apartment in Blacksburg. She is graduating in December and we have to bring all her stuff back this weekend. I would rather be Whalering but at least tuition payments end in a few months. Thank god!
Next time.

Well another whaler boating event in the books...

WEather was pretty gorgeous most of the day.

Lots of fish everywhere, sometimes to many to count on the fish finder, but cought only a few.

Clearly, highlight of the day was dropping down into St. Clements Bay and going down and beaching at "Shipping Point" for lunch and some relaxing walking on the beach, a swim and some fishing, not to mention the delicious sandwiches:))

A few jelly's in the water, but not many so it was nice taking a dip:)

In the later afternoon, winds picked up from the south and we got some white caps around the island and the weather report called for increasing winds to SMA, so he headed back to the "Lower Machoodac"

Heat and humid was stiffling when we where back at the dock so...

Then we followed "Evanstar" and Kamie back to her place in "Das BOat" giving BOb a chance to run her while I smoosed with Pat up front for a few minutes...

That 175 ETEC does a sweat job with her whaler....

"Das BOat" was a sweet ride even in the chop and Bo enjoyed taking the helm....

Rain checks are in everyones hand that didn't make it this time...as I'm doing this most any day I can:) ehhe...

If you play hooky, or get soem time off , holler at me:))

Thnaks for coming down you guys, it was fun:)) Henry

We had a glorious day out on the water

Kevin,

Sounds like you didn't miss a step or a thing if you were out in your boat...Like the new name me thinks....

Why don't you get a Rend. of your own going for down in your place...you might be suprized at the numbers:)

Do you have all the parts to put one on? I'm game...

but you have to invite people to have them actually show up! LOL

Glad your using your boat more:)) Henry
