I'm heading out for some boating on the St. Clair River on Saturday, May 15, 2010. I'll be putting my boat in the water at the DNR Selfridge launch at about 10:30 a.m., and then cruising up to Port Huron. If anybody else is going to be out there tomorrow, give me a call on my cell phone - 248-765-3332. I'm taking my camera, and hopefully I'll see something interesting. If so, I'll post a trip report when I return.

Well, I took my trip - literally. Early in my voyage I stopped at a marina to pick up a couple friends. While there, I tripped over a dock line and fell on my face, breaking a finger in the process. After that I wasn't in much of a mood to take pictures. I didn't really see anything very interesting or unusual anyway. The river was full of debris from the recent rain storms, and there were not very many boats out on the water. |

Kevin -Sorry to hear that! A throbbing finger probably robs some of the joy of boating. I was able to get out on the water on Sunday evening for a brief run on beautiful Gull Lake. "Blew out the carbon" that has been building in those 130's since 2002 (only 200 hours on them). Dave |

Dave, it's good hear you got your boat on Michigan waters. Are you able to launch and retrieve that giant by yourself? |

I should read this forum more regularly. Sorry I missed the Saturday cruise. |

You didn't miss much, Jim. I saw very few freighters over the course of the day. There were also very few recreational boats out other than fishermen. The lack of cabin cruisers meant nice calm water, but the debris in water was really bad, making high speed running a bit scary. My primary goal for the day was to give my new canvas a bit of a workout, and I accomplished that. A few adjustments are now in the works. I will report on those in the ongoing thread in the post-classic section. |
