Bought a 1995 15' Rage with 115 omc i/o jet drive to taxi up and down the Colorado River on Lee's Ferry tailwater below Glen Canyon Dam. Am slowly bringing maintenance up to speed and have some questions about specs and performance.
Comp test shows 145/130 on starboard pistons and 125/125 on port pistons, a bit skewed. Any other experience on this?
Top end rpms at full throttle are 4700. Gauge redlines at 5000 and service book indicates a stop at 5800. Does this match other boats out there?
Finally, 2 stroke is very smokey at startup, not making friends at ramp. Changed plugs, cleaned up a few air leaks in fuel line, changed out vro and fuel filter, but still smokes. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

I have had mine since new and I have over 300 hours on the motor. I have never had a problem with it smoking I use the cheapest wal-mart oil that is rated for the motor.
Mine is currently doing about 4800 rpms but should be able to get 5000rpms. Top speed is cuurently at 30mph on GPS.
You may want to check the coils because they do tend to melt down when over heated this can cause a drop in rpms.
Your commpression is similiar to mine when I last did comppression check. They should be within about 10% of each other.

I hope this helps a bit if you have any other questions please post but I will be out of town next week so so please post befor Sunday evening.

Good luck with you Rage.

Lake Breeze Rage.

Thanks for the info mjd. This boat was original sold/used up in Flagstaff/Albuquerque before previous owner. I suspect they may have re-jetted the carbs before he bought it, which might explain the smoking. Have to check that out with an OMC mech. Other than being a bit underpowered and a smoker, I've got no complaints. Great boat for flyfishermen moving from sand bar to sand bar on river water and gets around pretty good on lakes here in Phoenix. It's my first boat and I'm happy to have it. Keep in touch. This boat appears to be a dark star in the Whaler galaxy but it's put me on a lot of trout.
